Default Kind of a wasted day at the track

Headed to the track early this morning and tech'd pretty fast.

Went to do the first pass, did a nice burnout, launched conservatively (3000rpm) bogged and nearly stalled and then reclutched and relaunched LOL!

2.4 sixty
12.3
123.79mph

I thought to myself, DAMN THE TRACK IS HOOKING!!

Went right back and hotlapped. Did a big burnout brought the revs to 4000rpm and just LIT THE TIRES UP on the line.

1.98 sixty
11.7
121.8Xmph (I let off early for some reason)

Third pass (couple hours later)

did a huge burnout brought the revs to 4000rpm again launched and spun like mad, grabbed second while spinning, KEPT Spinning, grabbed third and WAS STILL SPINNING!!

Let off the gas and coasted to a 15.4@70mph.

I was in third before the 330 mark LOL!

Track was jammed but there were lots of VERY nice cars there.

Saw a few guys from the club as well, Cam, Dale, Paul, the rock

cheers,
Chris

Temps were in the mid 90's and there was a cross-headwind of 10-15mph.

shiftlight was at 6200rpm and I was grannyshifting

I also weighed the car at the track. 3425 with me in it
That was with 1/4 tank of gas and only drivers seat in the car. (full carpet, panels etc) I want to get it in the 3350 range with me in it but have it look complete inside

you're only shifting that car at 6200? why?

that's odd how the track bogged you then spun bad, lot of street tire cars ripping up the starting line?

powerpeak was at 6000 on the dyno, thus the 6200rpm light (actually pulling the shifter at around 6300-6400rpm)

I find these tires are like that. Very inconsistent. Even a 500rpm launch difference can mean lighting the tires up. Also my iron disc setup is very aggressive...

I think there might have been a bit of oil/water on the line as I was very surprised at the difference

Just caclulated the Density altitude: 2556 feet

Very happy with that trap speed (123.79) in that air

It sounds like you have a tire/suspension problem.
*I* would guess tire since you are spinning into 3rd.
Even with bad track prep, I NEVER spun the tires past 1st gear when
I had a six speed.

I need to check the pinion angle. That is the only thing that could be off at the moment.

I also have a right rear airbag I need installed as well.

Get some good tires and get the car to hook before you put it in the wall.

Keep us posted on the tires. I had a set on my old 69 cheby pickup, best on them was a 1.87 . Switched to m/t et drags and ran 1.76's which was all the truck could do

I ran a 1.50 on slicks with the old motor (360)

With the right slick/gear combo 1.4's wouldnt be difficult

Sounds like the track ws crap and/or those tires are crap. To spin all gears is not fun and it's dangerous. I could put some street tires on my car and I'm sure I would stuff it into the wall.

I know what you mean

I just wanted to be able to drive to the track, race and drive home without screwing around changing tires etc. That pass was unusual. Normally it would just spin in first.

I'll check the pinion angle and put in the airbag this week and let you know how it works this weekend

We run at a slippery track alot. I feel your pain. Mark the tires and start going down in pressure until you get movement and stop. ALWAYS line up behind a "fast" car with large slicks and try to follow his prints. Sometimes getting tires too hot on a slippery track hurts. When you feel it coming loose at 5000, peddle the car until the tires catch up. It doesn't take a lot, just a 1/4 throttle, then roll it back down. Slip the clutch on the 1/2 to avoid shocking the tires again.

I've spun past the 1/8mi marker before with both a stock Camaro and the Z06 ON ET STREETS!!!

You've probably heard all that stuff before, I kinda posted it just for others reading the thread.

A friend threw me the keys to his Supercharged Z06 on street tires at the track.

That bitch spun the tires no matter what I did. I would get the tires to grab, roll it back down and when the boost came up, it would just spin again. Insane. Think it was 12.4 in the high 120's.

The last mod guys do is tires. Can't figure it out.

That is good information for the others reading for sure. I have the rims screwed so no worries about the tire rotating on the rim

Keep your head up. Ya'll get her worked out.

It does sound like to me you need to put slicks back on her.
