Seat recommendations
Seat recommendations Have a 02 z28 408 turbo car needing some recommendations on some seats, car is 80% track car 20% street, does NOT have a cage yet will be getting one this fall/winter was looking at kirkeys so I wouldn't need to buy twice but I see everyone says they need braced, car has NO seats in it at all right now was bought as a roller no interior, just seeing what everyone else is running. Thanks
Kirkey's probably best option, but to my knowledge to be track legal they must be braced by bars from main hoop... they will also flex quite a bit when bolted to floor and not braced on back section.

The Kirkey and the roll-bar are mutually connected, the seat WILL crack at the mounting points without a support to the upper half of the seat. Also if the car will ever see the street a really careful SFI hard foam install is mandatory, its pretty ugly when someone gets in a street accident without a helmet in a car with a cage. When your buying a Kirkey make sure your buying the seat for your application, there are some differences between their circle track and road race seats & accessories on how they are installed as well as how they are reinforced.

Kirkeys with covers are ****. If you bottom mount the top will flex some which is odd when you are used to stock style seats. A simple bar bracket could be made that attaches behind the seat until you get a cage.

Well if he wants to be legal. Not everyone class races, and may not give two ***** about rules. I do advocate safety and while i dont think the seat would break during normal use i would brace the back for safety.

TNT, they still require due to being a sanctioned track (IHRA, NHRA) BUT, I've seen some "things" not looked at too good if at all.
Every time I go, I get the once-over...some checks are more thorough than others.

They wouldn't care at my local track either honestly, I will just run them if anything I can fab up something until i get the cage in at least I don' t gotta sit on a bucket to move the car
