Default Started installing front drag brakes...

I'm about 1/2 way done with the install of aerospace front drag brakes and have nothing but positive things (almost!) to report thus far.

The instructions say you need to cut off both mounting ears, but I found you can get away with just shaving down just one of the ears. This means I'll be able to put my stock brakes on the front WO/ buying a new spindel arm (good news).

The strange front drag brakes include a new alum hub assembly, while these use the stock hub assembly. The bad news here is that the strange brakes save an additional 9#, but on the other hand aerospace allows you to retain your antilock brakes and costs around $450 less.

So far the fit and finish has been very high quality and the brakes look very nice. I did a scale-2-scale comparison and these will save me ~30# of weight, with ~20# of that being rotating weight. The rotating weight is pretty close to the center of rotation so its not _that_ significant, but it will help more than a straight 20# off the front.

On the minor down side the brake lines aerospace includes are not plug and play, I need to go down to PAW and find a couple fittings.

When I finish the install I'll report my streetability findings.

What are JS and the doubters going to say when I actually get my car down to the weight they claim it is?

Yeah, fronts are cake, very nice stuff! Now the rear is a different story. I had to order a set of .375 shims from Mosier, have the bearings pressed off, shims & bearings pressed on. Nice but a pain in the ***. Couplers with the Strange set were not a problem as I ran new lines anyway and used their flexible-braided to go from the calipers to the lines. Terry, did you get a new master cylinder with your set? I opted for a new manual one from Strange with seperate proportioning valves. Good stuff but Mosier having 2 different axel ends made mine a PITA.

Come on, they don't work very well at all????? Jeez I guess thats why Strange sells the **** out of em, not just for our cars but across the board in drag racing. My son drives the car. I would never compromise his safety for any reason. The manual system works just fine.

Just so others following know for sure what Dave is getting at.

You pop a motor on the far end of the track, and loose power, you loose your brakes too! Unless you have a manual setup like Dave is talking about. I've seen cars loose power on the far end...several times. If you do...don't make the mistake of pumping your brakes....mash the pedal and don't let up until your stopped ( at least that is what I've been told...once you let up you won't have near the braking power on the next push, and if your still going 100+....well you get the idea. With Dave's setup...no worries!

I got the strange fronts, and will likely be adding the full setup soon.

No they do not work as well as stock. They do require more pedal pressure to stop the car. Not a problem, we knew this going in. I would not drive on the street with them at all. They get very hot. They are designed to stop the car once and then cool down. You are not going to drive em on the street are ya?

Why do you keep referring to an 85lb Korean woman,C5PIG is a 185lb police officer, keep it up,I don't think he'll appreciate being referred to as a woman. Why did you get rid of your C5 6-speed?It's not because you couldn't drive it is it.

2) Since most of us fall in the 160-190# category to drop 100#s via a driver we'd need to throw a 85# Korean women in the car.

Honestly I don't get why you didn't post C5PIG was driving here like you did on the Corvette forum. You even made it sound like you were driving by referring to all the wheel spin you were getting off the line. What's the raceweight on your car with C5PIG, 3350#?
