Default stall/gears/tire size.

I am running a pt4000 with a 2.3str ( i know i need more)
I also have 3.23s stock gears (yes they wine like hell now)
I run a 26 et at the track.

I am going to take my car down for a while to do some small things to it.
Dave at rock on wants to look at the tranny for free and see how every thing is looking now after 8 mouths of straigh torcher. This would be my time to have the stall sent of to yank and have it worked on. What should i go to. I have a set of 3.73s at the house to put in the rear. Should i up the stall and str or just the str. I am getting crap for 60's Best i can pull off is a 1.61. I know the gears are hurting me also. Should i up the str to 2.8 or so to get that umf out of the hole.

Sould i also sell the 26's and go with a bigger tire like a 28. ( what all do i have to do to fit the 28 in there. Roll the finder and **** like that). How does this help in the long run. If my math is right doent that make the gears 3.55? Does it just help because there is more rubber?

P.S. I cant spell for **** and most liley will never spell good so dont bash on me that hard.

this is just me, but if i had a auto again i would go with a ypt 4400 with either 3.42 or 3.73 gears and stay with 26" tires. they seem to hook well on a auto car, and no fender beating and cutting required.

In reading "many, many" post on stall, tires, gears, IMO what will matter is 2 main things.

1) Daily driver?
2) At what rpm does your TQ peak?

I have had the same problem with **** 60' - same only 1.61.

Currently, I run a 4000 stall, 4.30 gears on ET Drag 28x9x15. The 28x9 are only 27.3" with a roll-out of 88" shifting at 6700, I finish about perfect at 6600 at the traps. I seen an improvment in my 60' moving from 26x10x15 to the 28x9. They do fit nice. No rolling of the fenders needed. I am going to be re-stalling mine to 4800 or 5000. Mine does not see much street time.

Since you are going to be doing the stall anyway -- look at your peak TQ. Stall it right at or just pass peak TQ - mine peaks at 4600 and carries to 5400-5500.

Again you are swapping out gears anyway - 4.10's will give a bigger "punch" out of the hole. You will still be able to run 26" -- maybe the 28x9. And they still will be streetable.

Good Luck

David

I'm a newbie but I have a question. Wouldn't you pick a stall speed that puts you right before peak torque so you can use the meat of the torque curve to launch?

what has worked well for a few cars in my area that have similar rear wheel HP as you is around a 4400 stall(loose, motor converter, not tight spray 'verter) 3.73 gears and a 28" et drag. just make sure the car gets tuned to have the shift points proper so you aren't pegging the limiter or shifting to early or high.
