Default Starting up

Hey guys I currently have a 2001 ss auto car. In the future I plan on going turbo with a 5.3 and th400 but for now I’m looking for some options to wake the little ls1 up. It currently is tuned, ls6 intake, ported throttle body, lid and full exhaust headers back. Car will be an 1/8 mile car driven rarely on the street. Overall goal I want to just wake up this ls1 while getting together a plan for the 5.3 build. More than likely a bottle will be used. Just generally looking for opinions on torque converters, wheel and tire setups, suspension parts, rear end gears, etc. looking to try and go 6.99 in the 1/8 on somewhat of a budget as I’ve got other project vehicles. Any ideas would be a big help

How much does your car weigh?

To go 6.99 in the eighth you will need a serious head and cam package to get it done naturally aspirated. I would recommend you sending some 243 heads to TEA or buying some TFS 220s as cast heads.

Also weight and suspension plays a bigger role than what most people think.

I would concentrate on getting some good suspension under the car, as that is really all that will move over and compliment your next turbo set up. I have had good luck with viking double adjustable stuff. A good torque arm, LCAs and relocation brackets. That will carry you a good ways. As far as the power to get you to 6.99, I would put a cam in it and ad a cheap nitrous kit. You could get there with just the cam but it would cost more in overall parts and be a much more max effort set up. I wouldn't go crazy on a expensive converter if all you want to do is dip into the 6's and then move to a turbo.

I just now seen this. Car is pretty much stock weight. I plan on doing some weight reduction as this car will hardly see the street but I wanna keep it street appearance I guess you could say? Oh yea I’m big on suspension and tire setups for sure. It’s going on the lift tomorrow to see what all has been done exactly as I bought it second hand. Any recommendations on cam selection?
