Default Street/Strip Build Up

This is my third 4th gen. I picked it up last March and was basically a stock 99 Camaro with an underdrive pulley, ported throttle body, SLP lid, Hooker Blackheart headers and dual exhaust, and topped off with Racestar rims.
My first car was a 2002 B4C that I got running high 11's. Sold it to a friend, wish I kept that car.
Second car a 2000 Camaro, ran low 12's with a cam. It was red and a t-top, neither which I like so I sold it to another friend.
This current car is a 99 Camaro. It has about 140k miles so when I got it I put a Summit cam in it, topped off with LS6 intake and 243 heads and it ran a best 11.54 @115. I had hoped for a couple more mph, but overall was happy to start. My first bracket race late this year, first elimination pass, my opponent gives me a red bulb, but I break a u-joint on the starting line. The transmission also went out. Not sure which caused which, I suspect when the back u-joint went it pushed the front yoke up into the trans.

So now, I have a large laundry list for things I want to accomplish over the winter. I'm already way over my head for what I want to do vs $ I have to spend. End game is to run a consistent 11.50 at 2500 DA. So hopefully I can keep up with this thread as time goes on. Please stop in and share your thoughts.

Great question, but I don't have a great answer yet. I am not replacing the trans without replacing the 10 bolt rear also. At least not racing it until there is a better rear. God forbid I fix the trans, break the rear and take out another trans.

As far as the engine, not sure yet. I started rewiring and I want to clean up and possible paint the engine bay. I don't have immediate plans to tear into the engine. If I had the funds I'd put a 383 together. If nothing else there is a chance I'll tear the heads off and clean up the ports a little, but not right away.

Take the 243 heads off, mill them .030 and run a cometic thinner head gasket.
Pick up a half point or a point of compression, and gain power all across the curve.
Easiest thing to do on top of what you have.

Get an SSRA type intake

Proper converter (4k stall minimum) will help also

Thanks. Debating on the heads, but I may either deck the heads and/or do a little clean up.
I have an FTI 4k converter, but changing over to either TH350 or TH400 and may or may not go a tad bigger on stall. 4k seemed to work well with the cam I have.

.
I know this is an old thread but I am putting together a 2000 camaro right now and was just wondering a bit about the motor. What size was it and was it just intake, heads, and cam you changed and it went 11.54?

I have a 5.7 with headers and full exhaust, and a few others that ran 12.90s but am getting a cam from a local racer and he said he has incompatible heads on his 6.2 so I am hoping decent heads that are compatible with my 5.7. You gave me hope for 11's on this build. I just picked the car up so am hoping to just get it running and make a few track test days.

Thanks for reviving it. No sooner than I start this thread and get a distraction. Hope to get back to making progress soon or I wont be racing this season. Best of luck with your hot rod.

I thought I would be a lot further along by now, but was working a second job to save some money for a transmission. Now I am finally making a small amount of progress. Other than a broken transmission this is what started my madness. When I began to clean the rust under the battery tray the cheap paint came off way too easy and I decided to refresh everything. I really liked the look of Hot Rod black, but it didn't go with Pewter so I used a satin black instead.

Here is the airbox. I used an aluminum plate, riveted to the airbox with some tabs and added seam sealer.
The last picture shows the airbox installed but it is rather dark and difficult to see any detail.
