Default What rpm should I launch?

I went to the track yesterday and I ran 8.80 in the 1/8. I was very dissappointed because my previous car ran a 8.40 with just a cutout and bassani ORY. My current car has hooker LT, true duals, BMR SFC, LCA, Torque Arm, PHROD, 160 thermastat, 11' chrome ZR1 on 315 nitto's and spec stg 3. My 60 ft was 2.3. I would just like your opinion and recommendations on my setup. What rpm should I launch? I know that having 11' on nittos with a stock 10 bolt is a bad combination. I was launching it at 2500 rpm.

Do you bog or do you spin out of the hole?

With an M6 and DR you need to put some heat in the tires. Without a line lock, it gets a bit tricky, but you need to heat them up. Don't stop after the burnout, roll out. Stage. You should be able to launch at more like 4000 not 2500. The spec (according to most) should be able to with stand the launch. BUT the stock rear-end will not be around long. When I started out with about the same set up as you (but with BFG's) I launched consistently at 4500-5000. Hight 1.7 and low 1.8 was the norm.

Of course now I am assuming that the track is prep'd good.

Good luck - Practice, Practice and still more practice.

David

I usually bog out of the line. I didn't think I would be able to launch that hard with a stock rear. I guess I will give it hell so I can get a 12 bolt. Thanks for the responses guys. I was kinda bummed when I returned from the track, but good to hear that imy car is able to do better.

Let the clutch out just a bit before you dump it. If you have the clutch on the floor and you side step it, that will cause some damage eventually, having all the slack in the driveline. Let the clutch out to the point at which it can preload the drivetrain for you, but not pull you out of the staging line. I don't even side step the clutch with my 12-bolt. Or you can try to feather the clutch off the line, but eventually that will send a clutch to an early grave. Good Luck

We should have simular power and we both have heavy rims with nitto's. Last night I was launching at 3500 rpm and bogging a little so I know you were bogging hard leaving at 2500 rpm. I raised the launch to 4000 and picked up more mph. Preload the clutch so you don't have all that slack when you launch or you will blow the rear. Raise the rpm to 4 grand and engage the clutch just until you feel it load. If you do too good a burnout and hook your rear is gone. I usually only burnout 3 seconds or so. My buddy heated them up for about eight seconds one time and snapped it first time. Also, because our cars are so heavy, leave on the third yellow light. By the time the rest of the car catches up it will be green. Good luck

On nittos I had best luck just slipping the clutch out. I'd hold around 3300 and kinda ride the clutch for a bit. It kept spin down but was hard on the clutch.

the reason for dumping is so you can actually "shock" your suspension, making it flex and move... pushing your rear end down into the ground, therfore making it hook.

on these cars, suspension is GREAT. on the 8 inch patch i have on the et streets, i can launch it off the 6700rpm revlimiter and it does nothing but hook and GO... and all i've done is LCA's, trak pak torque arm, and SFC's

I get the best ET/MPH with my combo by 17 pounds air,3-4 second burnout then stage,I start to rev the motor and slip the clutch at the same time to keep from bogging and not shocking the 10 bolt too much.I leave with a slight tire spin and the tach climbs steady.I can get right at 1.83-1.85 doing this and get 112 MPH.If I do a massive burnout and do a 3.5k dump the car leaves hard but boggs about 30 feet out and nets a 1.85-1.87/12.7/110.High RPM clutch dumps will scatter a 10 bolt, its only a matter of time.

After finally learning to warm up my tires and removing my sway bar i am doing better on my 60 foots but, I still havent seen anything lower than a 1.9 But then again I have only been to the track 6 or 7 times

I just learned that with a good burn out, no sway bar and nittos I have NO spin on 2,000 rpm launches so, next time i go back to the track I hope to up the ante (sp) and keep testing her out. I wanna get the most out of her before I make any performance upgrades. But, as boring as it may sound: Practice Practice Practice is the key.

Right now i have the 160 tstat, nittos on 16" twisties on the back, 3.73 gears, cheap lid, filter, lca's. sfc's and my pro5.0/lou short stick combo. And my 60ft's range from 8.5 - 8.9 depending on my driving, track prep and humidity (miami sucks). Hopefully my 8.5's will become more consistent and lower with more practice.
