The bike forums talk a lot about the Li batteries, the weight reduction is pretty significant on the big off-road KTM's BMW's etc.
The only disadvantages you read about there are cost,, Good ones are not cheap, and cold weather performance, they really are not happy at near freezing temps, you also should just plan on investing a Li specific battery charger/maintainer. Also monitoring your charge voltage is important to keep them in good shape. The thing I've noticed on the bikes is how well they crank ,, the power hit is very solid on them.
I've also seen a before and after O-scope of ignition performance and the response time of the LI battery seems to help consistency of the ignition firing. Wasnt scientific , but the sparks graph just was a little smoother and linear... YMMV
I decided to put a lightweight lithium battery in the original location. This saved me a lot of work and money by not having to rewire and putting battery in trunk. This Antigravity brand lithium battery (ATX 20 HD $359.99 @Amazon) with hold down and hardware weighs just 6 lbs. I used thin gauge steel purchased at Homedepot and bent it to shape to securely mount battery. It is held down using short stainless sheet metal screws and screwed into OEM plastic tray. I made some brass battery post extensions that match my OEM cables.
