I don't know the exact weights, but you will lose some going from the Eaton (heavy) to a spool (lighter).

Also, you lose effective gearing going from a 26" tire to a 28" tire. You need to make that up with steep rear gears - either 4.30's or 4.56's. IMHO, with a 28" tire, I'd step up to 4.56's - you need all the help you can get with the 2.66 1st gear.

Good luck.

Wait a minute....uh....actually, I think you need like 2.73 gears or something...ya ya..and add a couple hundred lbs to your car too...its too fast. Ok?

I'm only stepping up 1.2 inches,it's not a true 28 inch tire.(27.3).
I'll have trial runs next Saturday. Then I'll decide what gear.
I really want to see the weight difference on the spool.

spool weight..
mw alum spool=5.3lbs
mw standard spool= 14 lbs
mw lightened spool (milled) 11 lbs

You can get lightweight gears too which can take off another .5-2.5 lbs

I could not find the weight of a eaton but i had my mw catalog here and i amagin most spools will weight approx the same.

What's the strenght difference on those?
Obviously, I'd go for the lightest one possible.
Will the aluminium hold up?

Default 4.30 gears w/ lightweight spool?

Right now I have a moser 12 bolt w/ Eaton Heavy duty Posi and 4.10 gears.
I was trapping @ about 6100 in 4th gear on Hoosier 26x9.5-15 QTP's.(26.1x8.0 actual)
I now have ET DRAGS 28x9.(27.3x8.6 actual).

I haven't made any passes on the new tires.
I have a few questions-
How much lighter is the spool the the posi unit?
Would there be any gain in going to 4.30's?

I'm just kicking around ideas right now.
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The standard spool I have weighs about 20 pounds lighter than an Eaton posi.
I am not sure how an alum spool would hold up on the street. It is damn light though hehehe
