Default New best despite some more problems...

OK, this is starting to get ridiculous! We swapped the powerglide back into the car Friday afternoon, and I made a quick test on the street. This was the first time I'd driven the car any since finding the loose rocker arm and fixing it. The car felt really good, everything was working fine. However, when I cam back from my test drive, I tested out the transbrake to make sure it worked OK, but strangely the converter would only flash to ~2500rpm on the brake. Hmmm, interesting. I figured my MAF connection was screwing with me again somehow and left it at that.

This morning I cranked the car out and decided to take it for a spin and see if indeed I was being attacked by the MAF gremlins again. Guess what? Now the car feels like the converter is dead. I could press the brakes, and floor the gas and watch the tach only go to about 2500rpm, and not even think about spinning the tires. Long story short, the converter is now dead. I swapped in my "spare" which is a 3500 stall 10" that I had up in the attic and decided to go see just how bad it would kill my 60' times vs. the trusty old JW converter (which is definately broke BTW, as you can see a big crack inside of it).

As I imagined, the car does not like to 60' with a 1.82 1st gear and a 3500rpm converter. Best 60' was a 1.47 (and 2 1.49's). The loose rocker arm was hurting the car previously, as I still managed to click off a 10.47 @ 129.75mph with a 1.49 60' time. My best mph came from the afternoon's first run, and was 129.98 (I was really hoping for 130mph). I won't even go into how hot and nasty the weather was today, so I really couldn't be much happier with the performance. Weather Underground says it was 91.9deg, 48% RH, and 29.95 barometer. I don't know what that amounts to for DA, but it couldn't be very good.

So... Looks like the 2-speed is the way to go in my car and will be staying. Now I just need to send my converter to JW and get it fixed to get my 60's back in the 1.3's again!

Excellent times for the heat George! I can only imagine what it is going to run in the cool air with a 1.3x 60'.

WOW, complaining about 1.4's

So close to your mph goal!! So how pissed were you to see that slip with you being .02mph off?

Hopefully you get the converter taken care off soon and back to the track!!

Damn George, with some cold weather and a little more dialing in, you will be knocking on 9's...

Awesome!! I cant wait till everything is dialed in and ready to go. Probably 134mph in the fall and maybe 9's?

I'll throw in my two cents (.02) Geaorge, and that'll give you an even 130.00

You'll get it all sorted out man. You'll be screaming when the fall weather arrives

Todd, thanks for your $.02! That should really help out!

PSJ, I think the car needs around 5000-5200 stall. I'm shifting at ~7500 or so (HP peak is around 7200).

The old JW seemed nearly perfect. I'm going to see if they can get another 200-300 rpm stall out of it when I send it to them for repairs.
