26 or 28 tire
26 or 28 tire I know this has been asked before but Im not quite sure still. Im running a 01 ws6 m6 thats making 442 to the wheels with 3.90s. Im currently trapping 118 in 4th with 275/40/17s. Im switching to a 15 wheel. Im still not sure whether I should get a 26 or 28 tire. Any input would be helpful.

My car is an A4, full weight and ~450 RWHP, 4.11 gear. With the M/T P275/60R15's (28.2" tall) tire, my top end RPM is only 6500, even though I have a loose (4500 stall) converter. I am going to try a 26" tire (like the Hoosier 26/10R-15 or 26 x 8.50R15) to get the trap RPM over 7000. I have good heads, a FAST 102 and 102 TB, so it likes to breathe at higher RPM.
What is your RPM @top end? If you're still making power over 7000, then the smaller tire should be quicker.
Also, FWIW, the stick shift NHRA Stock Eliminator guys I work with use a bias tire because they recover better than a radial if the tire starts spinning, Your mileage and track prep may vary.
