Well for those who have been interested in what a glide will do here's my update. This is a heads/cam, bolt on car that my current guess at raceweight is 3250 (scales were closed tonight).
The previous best motor pass with the A4 was in a DA of -200 and was run on 26" ET Streets. The pass tonight was a DA of +2200 and was on 28" Slicks. The track wasn't at it's best as the start of test n tune was delayed due to rain. Made two passes on motor and then the rain came again and they cancelled the rest of the night.
Prior best motor:
60' - 1.689
1/4 - 11.666
mph - 117.90
New best motor:
60' - 1.691
1/4 - 11.536
mph - 119.79
I'm still running the 3.70 rear gear to get some passes on the gas before I decide on either a 4.30 or 4.56. I expected the launches to be softer than before with the bigger tire, the 1.76 glide first gear and the track/weather conditions. I was quite pleased with the results to say the least.

it goes ok
haven't been able to hit it with a real kit yet. tried recently but had a bad n20 selenoid.
not in a hurry, keep finding other things to do in this crappy heat and humidity other than wrench lol.
good luck man

I am digging the fact that you made an improvement with the glide.
I also have always been told that a glide would not work in the LS1 f-bodies. Looks like this is going to be my next mod over the winter. The Hot Rod is going to get a glide.

Coach, duty calls, good to hear it's getting close to the season. I'm real pumped about the mph picking up in this weather. Holds a lot of promise for the future. The glides are just so efficient, makes it a fun toy. Cool on your decision.
Chris, the converter is a Coan 8" Max that was designed to stall 4000 on the brake and 5500 on the gas. I don't know the efficiency of it, but the needle bearings in lieu of friction plates has to help
On motor I'm going through the traps at 6000 and once I make some passes on the gas I'll be throwing in the new gears

I'm loving this and when I back it up with the right gear and hit the gas...

When I was meeting with my tranny builder and going over the specs for the build he showed me some 1.80 planetaries vs. 1.76 WOW what a difference.
Tom, nice 60ft time. What kind of HP, converter, and weight was that with? TCI is building up a 1.92 Glide with all the bells and whistles for my '00. I was split as to what gear ratio to go with. At first I was going with the 1.8 but then decided "what the heck, I'll hook it somehow!" and went with the 1.92.

Yes that's it. A 1.92. I can never remember that.
Power level? 540 SAE at the wheels and lots of torque.
I have a COEN converter. Its an 8". The stall speed was built to engine specs. Never did know the stall but it's probably about 4600. The converter flashes to around 5500 to 5600 when I stab it. Sorry I can't help much there but I really don't know the stall speed.
Race weight was around 3300 to 3350.
Gearing is 4.86 for now. When the weather cools down I'll go with a 4.70 and try that.
Weather will be pretty cool for the summer months this weekend

Sounds like we have the same converter
Sweet short times! On the gas I'm making 507rwhp (from stab of the throttle thru the entire pull) and 550rwtq and am hoping to see some good times soon. What RPM are going through the traps at?Eric

My power curve is pretty much a straight line too
Trap RPM ?
Depends on the weather. When I run 9.90's I go thru at 7650 and when I run 10.0's about 7550 or so. MPH ranges from 133 + to just under 136.
I'll be changing gears in early september

I swear my power curve is nothing more than a direct result of going with a Coan converter.
Now that's some rpms! I'll have to take back about what I said of having the same converter
The boys at Coan build 'em to motor/car specs and I don't have what you do! The gear calculator I've used doesn't seem to back up what I'm currently running so I'm gonna be old fashioned and run it on the gas and see what I'm going through the traps at. My race weight is around 3250 and I'll be trying to go through at 6700. My current mph on motor is 119 and trap rpms are at 6000. I'd be guessing without a nitrous pass so I'll wait and hopefully the rain will hold off for me tomorrow night to find out
Eric
Interesting thread guys! I always wondered if a glide would work with the LS1. Are they only good in liteweight cars? Bet driving one on the street is out of the question?!?
Someday I have to do something for a stronger tranny, but haven't decided what it will be yet - I want to keep it on the street at least a little and be able to cruise some. Well, my A4 is holding up well on motor, I just have to stay away from the bottle!

Oh well, should be fun!
