Join my quest for 10's
I think alot of people over look gearing and tire size. You are going in the right direction I think. The height of the taller tire is going to give you a bigger patch and help your traction and drop your short time. I also like deeper gears for us M6 guy's. I think it helps with the foll out period of first gear. I know you guy's already know all this stuff, but it is good to kick ideas around. I liked Mooses 4.30 27" tire set up. Just my two cents, what do you guy's think?
BTW, good luck on your quest for 10's <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I kind of like the 4.33/26 inch combo. If I ever plan to spray I am only a tire swap to 28 inch slicks away.
4.56/28s will be more consistent at marginal tracks with the added sidewall and rollout of the taller tire.
Gearing makes a bigger difference in a M6 than an A4. You dont have the torque Multiplication and flash of the converter off the line. It is all rpm and gearing for us M6'ers.
I am looking at gaining no more than 1 tenth and 1mph from the gearing/slick/traction change. The other 2 tenths will be weight, tuning and suspension setup etc. I want to be able to run consistent high 1.4 to low 1.5 sixties. Need your opinions on what would be the best choice for those kinds of sixties.
Thanks again,
Chris
ps- I gained just over 1.7mph from the cam change but I raced in worse DA since the swap. (with the six speed in the car.)
I would guess the gain is about 2mph in similar weather.

helps. What rpm does your combo peak at and does it fall sharply after its peak? A friend of mine has 4.56's and m/t 28x10.5x15's on his H/C '01 SS.
His best so far is 11.26@120.55 with a 1.50 60ft, his car weighs in at a portly 3550 lbs. He goes through the traps at around 6600rpm. His car makes peak power at 6600-4.88's probably would be ideal with his setup, but he is planning on spraying the car. I would start with 4.56's and go up from there. I don't think that the car would hook CONSISTENTLY on a 4.30/26x10 combo, IMO
the 28's are a must for a stick car.
Good luck on your quest for 10's, I hope to join you in the spring. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
My car peaks at 6300-6400rpm but carries over 400RWHP from 5200rpm to almost 7000rpm. (Area under the curve <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> )
I think I am going to go with the 4.56/28 combo. I would hate to spend the money on the 26/4.30s and end up not hooking.
Cheers,
Chris
My experiment with tires this month:
Worn ET streets=1.59
newer QTP=1.50
Newer ET Drags=1.44!! <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />
You will be there with that simple change. Dont pussyfoot it off the line & you will fly. I would try that first, before messing with the gears. Good luck.
I have run a 1.49 60ft, 11.07 ET at 123 MPH getting off the gas at the top end. My weight was 3415lbs. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
With the added 85 lbs this weekend at the Thunder Racing shootout, I am hoping to run in the high 10's. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
Good luck with your quest. <img border="0" alt="[angel]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_angel.gif" />
Iam in the same boat as you. I want that 10 second time slip so bad I can taste it. <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" />

The car is a daily driver hehe <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
hmm.. Maybe I will try the full slick (26x10x15 Hoosier) first in the spring with the 4.10s and then if it doesnt help a great deal go up in gear. (I already have 28 inch slicks, though they are the medium compound. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> )
I am only launching at 5000-5500rpm now, I will up the launch rpm to ~6500rpm and see if that combined with a stickier tire is enough for high 1.4 Low 1.50 sixty...
Thanks again guys, lots of good information for me to think about <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Cheers,
Chris
The only thing about the Hoosier tire is that they do not make a good stick tire. I have tried 2 different compounds they have with no luck at all. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
I have had great success with the Goodyears and the M/T. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
This is only my opinion. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
Good luck to ya. <img border="0" alt="[angel]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_angel.gif" />

PS. My 5.13 geared Hot Rod is a daily driver also. I put 230 miles on her driving to work last week. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
so you find the ET Drag a good six speed slick? Takes the shock of launching well?
hmmm that is very interesting <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Thanks,
Chris
by the way, has anyone run 10.9x on head and cam 6 speed?
9Ball went high 11.0s with the 232/112LSA cam in his 382 MTI all-bore.
Yeah I think I'll give the 4.56s and 28's a shot. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
I also found out my MAF has been NON-FUNCTIONAL for the past couple of months LOL <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
The power wire to the MAF was severed in behind the loom. I was getting a low voltage code to the MAF and now know why!
I fixed it and I picked up a SH!TLOAD of power in the midrange and some up top too. I cant believe I ran as fast as I did with a totally dead MAF. I am going to have to redyno and retune to make sure AF and everything looks good. If I can pickup another 10-20RWHP with some more tuning and functional MAF, that with traction and gear change plus another ~150 pounds should be high tens at 123-124mph.
Cheers,
Chris
ps- I think Coach is going to beat me to tens <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I am looking forward to hearing the results from TR shootout <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I'd say 4.56/m/t 28x10.5x15, What size rear rim are you running? I run a 9 inch rim in the rear with my Hoosier 28x10's, I will be switching to M/t's soon b/c I have switched to a 6 speed.
Check out the link that gator mentioned
ragingmotorsports.com, the car on the top is the H/C car I had mentioned before, 1.50 11.2x@120.55
3550 or so.
I dont know of any hyd cammed guys there yet though. Has anyone heard of any?
Cheers,
Chris
I think I'll go with the 4.56/28x10.5 MT ET Drags. That sounds like the best setup for traction on both sticky and marginal tracks with the six speed. I am hoping to pick up a set of 15x10 aluma stars rears and skinnies.
