Questions on Removing HVAC system
I need to put my car on a diet for the 388 (I have 10's!) so I'm doing lightweight carpet, k-member, front runners, !front and rear bumper support. I was looking at the HVAC system as well, I know that Pain said that it took off a lot of weight but said it was a hardcore delete mod. To my knowledge HVAC is only for emissions, right? I won't ever take my car to a "normal" smog place so I'm worried about that. My question is are there any issues with removing the HVAC system (i.e. driveability, etc)this car will be my daily driver until I get a beater. TIA ~Tony

Re: Questions on Removing HVAC system
LOL HVAC = Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning
Do you mean
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation
AIR = Air Injection Reaction
If you're looking at removing EGR and AIR, no, there's no real performance increase (or decrease) by doing so. If you still have cats, don't remove AIR. Obviously you will not be able to pass CA smog with these removed, even with codes deleted with LS1Edit.
You lose about 4-5 lbs off the front end by removing all of the EGR & AIR system.
You'll lose a LOT more weight by removing the HVAC system. Remove the heater core, A/C blower box, ductwork under the dash, A/C compressor & hoses... I bet you'd lose 50-75 lbs easily.
-Andrew (I'll drive around with no bumpers well before I drive around with no A/C )
