Question what size rim

I am going to get a pair of nittos for my 2001 Hawk. My question is should I get a 16" tire instead of 17"? I am thinking a 16" would be better for the drag strip cuz I see some of the hard core guys using rims smaller than the 17" that came with there car? Also, would a 16x8 wide enough or should i get a 9 or larger I have stock tubs and lca's

using a smaller diameter wheel/tire combo is better b/c of the more sidewall you have available to use. IMHO, I'd go 16's. 8 inch or 9 inch rim will work, just check the offset/backspacing.
Happy hooking!

For what it sounds like you're considering, 16x8s should work just fine. The nittos are the best compromise for longer life. It sounds like these are track only tires. If so, why not consider a softer compound different tire for better hook?

I don't plan on putting in a 12 bolt so I need to spin a bit I guess I should have put that in the post.

I have new firehawks on my car now and just want to get in the 12's with a basicly stock 2001 ta. So I am going to get some rims and tires just for drag racing just a few times a year in this car.

I will be puting in a underdrive pully and a new clutch over the winter and maybee some 1.8 rockers to help out.

But, I will be geting new tires in the very near future to see if I can get in the 12's before the winter. My best time now is 13.5 with a 2.2 60, 107mph trap

any idea on what rims would fit if they are 16.9? Or does it matter if the front's are wider. elcheepoo's cuz I woun't be using them much.
