Default M6 Dr launch question?

I think this is the correct forum for this question. If not sorry. So anyways as you can see by my sig i have a 99 formula m6 with sfc's,control arms, control arm brackets, nitto's, and 4.10's in the stock rear . I also have a cam and the usual bolt ons. So my question is which is the best way to launch a dr car i guess. I took it to the track and launching it at 3500 to 4000 produced the best runs. This is with the lt's,4.10's,dr's, and the control arms which produced a disapointing 13.2 at 110. With a 2.0 sixtyft. I had to do a second gear burnout for a while to get them to hook. Now im going to the track with the cam and a good tune. Should i not burn out so much and launch lower to let the tires spin just a bit or what. Any input would be appreciated. Im sort of new to drag racing a m6 car. Had an auto before in a 68 Dodge Dart. Thanks!

Do you have a line lock? How are you doing the 2nd gear burn out and how long is a while? Are you slipping or dumping the clutch? Have you had someone watch your launch to see if you are spinning? I have not been able to launch on Nittos much past 2500 without spinning like mad. ET Streets will take a 5500+ launch well with a good burnout. Getting the tires good and hot isa good thing in an M6. Tire pressure is also critical and will depend on track conditions.

Hey there I will give you my way, But I only have bolt ons and 3.42 gears but I run 12.30s so not to bad.

I put my Nitto DR tire pressure down to 14 to 15 PSI COLD, do a 8-10 sec 2nd gear Burn out and then let off the brake and keep them spinning till it starts to hook a little. Then I roll up and stage bring the RPMs up to 3000-3500RPM (no 2 step so it is hard to keep it in one place!!) do what I call a controled dump, basically not just drop it totaly, more like a fast release and have managed low 1.8 60fts. But after a season of that I have just broke my 10Bolt finally . But it will be way more fun with the 9" and a steel DS, and launching at 5500RPM .

I wish i had a line lock, its coming soon. I sit in 2nd gear for probably 5 seconds at about 4k. I pretty much dump it as fast as i can but i dont side step it. Ya plenty of people watch and it doesnt spin deffinitly doesnt feel like it is either. I have done this launch up to about 4k dump which doesnt seem to help but seems like the clutch doesnt like the 4k dump. It doesnt slip it just doesnt engage as hard. Plus my buddy has a 00ss which he only has a cat back and lid doing the same launch as me doesnt spin them. But we both only run 2.0 60's. I dont know why with the speed i couldnt get it into the 12's. OH ya, it doesnt seem to make a difference with tire pressure, they just hook between 30psi and 15psi which is the lowest ive gone.

On a bone stock car, do you drag race by holding the clutch down while bringing the rev to about 2000 or so, then dump the clutch? I have never had someone tell me how to race. I have been sitting at the line (on back roads, not at the track) dropping the peddle at the same time as dumping the clutch.

Soon after getting the car in my sig, my %$#*&^@ Opti Spark went out and my low end torq went with it so I have only had a few months to play around with the drag racing.

But, that's the basics? Hold the gas down a bit and bring the rev up then dump the clutch?

EDIT: Won't this hurt the transmission? In an automatic do you keep it in neutral and bring the revs up, then down shift as you launch? Won't that kill a tranny?!

Im not the best at this but i can tell you the T56 in your car is the last thing you need to worry about braking in your car. As for the automatic, you never put it in neutral rev it and dump it into gear. You just put it in drive and get the revs up as high as you can without the tires spinning then go.
