Default Painting Roll bars

I think they look better without the foam padding, are you guy's spray painting yours or are you getting them powder coated? If you are spray painting them how do you avoid overspray (so the inside of your car doesn't look like some 5 year old painted it). I understand you paint the bars with the interior pannels/carpet/roof liner taken out and that when you put them back in it will hide the overspray, but what if you where going carpetless & pannel-less? Are you masking off the whole car or are you just holding a rag on the opposite side of the roll bar? I'd like to make mine look clean that's all. Any suggestions for a do it yourselfer?

if its not in the car yet, paint it before it goes in, that's what i did. of course when we welded it, it ate the paint near the welding points so i just had to touch it up again inside the car.

i re painted it though last week. just used plastic and stuff to protect from overspray.

I agree with Sean. Much easier to just touch up. If it's already in you'll definitely want to protect everything as the overspray can easily get away from you. Even if you think you might go with padding, still paint it to keep the rust away.

I painted my entire bar in the car. I used newspaper to tape off everything I could. It still wasn't enough. Overspray found its way to the entire exterior of the car. I spent about 10 hours with a clay bar & some Zaino taking it all off. Made the exterior slicker than snot tho. If you do paint in the car, you might drape plastic over every part of the outside of the car as well.

I'd definitely make sure the outside of the car was covered if you're painting a cage that's already installed. Otherwise you'll have overspray around any place that air was allowed to escape from the interior.

I don't know what paint everyone else used, but I used Rustoleum Epoxy Appliance paint. The stuff is super tough and won't scratch off like regular spray paint.
