Default How fast is a 12 bolt good for? When is a 9" needed?

Say a 12 bolt with 33 spline axles, spool, 3.73 gear, TA cover, 1/2" studs, etc etc etc.... Good enough for 8s?

With the spool and 33 spline axles, I wouldn't be worried about it that much.

I went 8.0@172 with a 12 bolt.. 9 inch is a stronger setup plus you have more gear choices and its alot easier to change gears but it also takes more power to turn a 9inch over a 12 bolt.. if you have the 12 bolt.. buy good gears/axles/bolts/studs/rear cover support and make sure the tubes are fully welded and you should be just fine.

Buy a spool!!!!!!!!!!!!
I broke my spider gears on mid 12 second run on Nitios.
There is a lot of cases of broken 12 bolts spiders in m6 cars. When it breaks again I will install a spool.

automatic prbably okay stick definatley 9 inch and I've even broke the best so it just depends but 9 inch is the strongest imo. Go with the 12 bolt with 9'' ring gear I think KTRE (spelling) makes em pretty strong set up alot of stock elimantor guys run them.

I'd probably do 5/8" studs instead of the 1/2". Big plans Spanky?

Just an FYI, supposedly KTRE is out of business (their website is not available). Sucks because we run a KTRE 12-bolt (by Tom's Differentials) in our race project Z28.
