Default Sub Frame / Cage?

If you weld in a 6 point cage and dont have sub frames, would you get them? Seems the cage would tighten and stiffen the car up..When looking at weight, is it worth it? Pros and Cons..thanks Jim

I would either get them or add a lower door sill bar into the cage. Even though the cage is in there, there is nothing to physically tie the front and rear of the subframes together. The lower door sill would weigh less and perform this function for you.

But, before I say that much, what are you looking to do with the car?

billingsley has cm sfc's if you don't want too much extra weight but still want to run them with the cage.

The car is set up for racing and very rare cruising....Its not a daily driver and gets trailored for farther distances..Weight is a concern, we spend so much getting the weight down, then saftey measures sneak it and add it back on..

I had Madman SFC's on my old '98, and they were lightweight and tucked up under the car nicely...

I personally wouldn't get them. That's why i haven't gotten them as the cage will help stiffen the car. If you're really worried about body flex you could probably do it for piece of mind.

And although safety requirements seem to add weight to your car, I would rather pay 500 bucks for a cage than have my wife pay 30 grand to put me in my resting spot.

By all means i am not complaining about Safety or i wouldnt be doing it or discussing it. I was thinking the same as you about the car being stiffened by the cage. I had 1.69 60 ft times all last year with just LCA's.

Default Do them both !

The job of a sub-frame connector is exactly
what it is called. It connects the two frames in
a sub-frame car. If you look under a sub-frame car
you will notice no frame rails between the two. So the
connectors fills the void to keep the rear frame from
crushing its way forward through the sheet metal
floor of the car. The result of the sub-frame connectors
will stiffen the car but is not its real intention.
