HVAC Question

I just removed all my HVAC componets. Where the heater hoses run in and out of the water pump there are now of course two holes with little tube type fittings. Ok, one is bigger than the other. What did you guys do to plug those. I assume take a small piece of hose and connect the two but what do you use since one is bigger than the other.

The difference is minimal. I just took a small piece of each one to PEP Boys and picked up a copper fitting to clamp the 2 ends onto. I left about 5-6 inches of hose on each opening and looped them. Some guys just cap the openings on the WP off but I've heard that it has caused circulation/ coolong problems but I don't know for sure.
