Default Rookie inside, with a few questions...

Hey guys i am like i stated a rookie with really no track time at all but i want to see what my SS can do with me driving it down the track. Shifting is not a problem i am pretty sure that i know how to do that, however drag strip procedure is not my forte.
Anyone have any advice for me as far as what will be going down, withe the water box, etc.

Another thing that really gets me is what should my car run with a decent driver, car and mods in sig. what about 60ft?

what is a good launch technique on street tires at the track with the m6? I figure probobly a 2500 rpm launch with feathering the clutch. and letting out slow, until i feel that i may have traction and then give it a go. is this a safe way to go at it, or is there a better way to launch? I figure that i should just avoid the water box, and maybe just do a little clean up to the tires before going to run. i take it a little clean up would probobly be just dumping the clutch real quick and letting the tires spin for a minute.

Thanks
Louie

PS any other advice is welcome.

From what I read your proposed launch technique is okay. (I'm A4). Yes, simply drive around the water box and quickly spin the tires for a few seconds to clean them off and them oh so slightly warm. Watch other cars go through the process before you do it, if you havn't before. Remember not to pull up to the tree (light) itself. Look where other cars pull up, there shoud be something on the ground/wall you can reference which is where the timing beams are. Proper etiquette (sp?) is to pre-stage and wait to stage when both drivers have pre-staged. As you approach the line the first yellow light(s) on top of hte tree will light up and you are pre-staged. When both vehicles are pre-staged roll forward another few inches and you will be staged when the second set of light illuminates. If it's a standard 3-2-1 tree, leave on the third yellow. If you are only going for time do not worry about the car next to you, and do not worry much about reaction time. If you have to wait a second or two after the green light go ahead, it won't hurt your ET. After you finish the run if you are in the far lane (opp side from the return lane) do not cross over in front of the other car. Either proceed to the end of the track or wait until the car in the near side has turned off. Do NOT drive fast anywhere except down the track. Be slow and carefull on the return/staging lanes and everywhere else.
