Why does my car trap so low?
Stock the car went 13.8 @ 101 I believe.
Lid + cutout and better weather and traction got me 13.2 @ 105.
Now I've added a converter (3200 stall) and 17x9 wheels w/ 275 tires (over the stock 16x8 w/ 245 tires).
Car now usually traps 103 in the 1/4 mile.
Previous best in the 1/8th with lid and cutout was 8.5 @ 84. I've only ran the 1/8th since the gears went in, but now the best with the converter and BFG drags out back along with 3.42 gears over my stock 2.73s, on stock 16x8 wheels is 8.3 @ 83, but I was running 82 most of the day.
Just curious, will the stall slipping as well as the extra weight of the 17x9 wheels and larger tires really hurt my trap speeds that much? Even for an auto car it just seems like my car is trapping very low. There are other auto cars out there with full bolt ons, barely any weight reduction, and a big cam running 120+. Granted weight reduction might be worth a few tenths and a few MPH, but even if my car had the full bolt ons, I doubt I'd see much more than 110 in the 1/4, and even with a huge cam probably only 115 or so.
Would a bigger (4400) converter, more gear like a 3.73, little things like the short belt and the like, and weight reduction really get me up close to 120 if I had a nice sized cam to go with it all? Right now I'm planning on a small cam with ported heads. Is there any reason that the small cam with ported heads, more gear (3.73), and more stall (4400) couldn't trap close to 120 MPH?

Lid + cutout, 2.73 gears, Kumho 712 street tires 245/50/16
Race setup currently (no 1/4 traps, 82-83 in the 1/8):
Lid + catback, 3200/2.5, 3.42 gears, Kumho 712 275/40/17 in the front, BFG 255/50/16 rear
Without the 3.42s and on the BFGs the car was only trapping 103 in the 1/4. Haven't ran the 1/4 after the gears.
