Default exhaust help

This winter I installed a new sheet metal intake and a bigger throttle body . I also shortened my exhaust extensions from 12" or so and a turn down, to just a turn down out of the collector.

Well, I lost some 60' time. I know, I know 1 change at a time. The bigger intake and TB is most likely the culpret but now I'm wondering if the shorter extension may have taken a little torque away also.

I just installed new 16" collector extensions and I want to mark them with chaulk? Crayon? and make a few passes to see what the perfect length would be and cut the access off.

What would you guys use to mark the black powder coated extensions? I hate a 1.38 short time.

Thanks a million in advance

Tom,

I went 1.34 with extensions/turn downs and then 1.32 with extensions/bullets (about 6" in difference of length). The big difference though was that I lost a tenth on the big end with the extra exhaust. How did you do out the back door?

I agree with Coach that Madman would have a good answer. IMO, I don't think the crayon would last - aren't they wax?

Eric, I don't wantthe markings to last. The crayon will burn off and where it doesn't burn off thats where you cut the adde3d length off. I just forget if it was crayon or chaulk or something else that you use to put a straight line mark on the length of the extender. I'm getting really old and I'm losing my memory.

I'm doing really well on the big end. The other day the DA was hovering at +2,500 to + 2,900 and I ran a worst of a 1.40 @ 9.89 @ 137.9X to a best of 1.38 @ 9.82 at 138.3X.

You lost a 1/10 with mufflers? I remember my engine builder warning me of a possible 10 HP loss if I went with 3.5" bullit mufflers out of my 3.5" collectors. He said to go with 4" bullit mufflers and there should be no HP loss. I used to run 3.5" X 13" extenders and a turn down and some classes required a bullit muffler and I ran a 4" bullit muffler and a turn down with no significant short time, ET or mph loss.

I just got the answer from a friend of mine. It's crayon. I haven't asked a dumb question for awhile so I figure I got it out of my system now.

Yes I am Coach. Tomorrow at PRP. It's the 2nd points day. It's been raining for the last 2 weekends. 1st points day I was fighting an ignition problem. I had an intermitant miss. The car missed a little on the first time trial. Ran a 9.86. Missed a little worse on the 2nd time trial and ran a 9.92. On the elim run i dialed a 9.92 and the car missed really bad. Ran a 10.00. I cut a good light but I lost bad.

I went home with my tail between my legs I pulled the new intake to change the cam position sensor and found the green wire on the cam position sensor plug was severed and held together with only 1 thread of metal wire. I put a new plug on, new CP sensor too. Took it to the track on 2 TNT nights last week and this week and the miss is gone. 8 passes and NO MISS.

Yes I am racing tomorrow my drag racing friend. I just got in from loading everything up. All I gotta do is fire the truck up and go. I'll really try and make up for getting my a$$ kicked 3 weeks ago.

How about you Coach? You racing this weekend?

Interesting...I'm going to play with some different length extensions and mufflers on my car this year. When you mark the pipe, do you mark the muffler as well? Or do you just mark the pipe, run, cut it off-then add the muffler? Or subtract the length of the muffler from the section of pipe that the mark is burnt off?
Thanks
