I've read that the sound deadening on the carpet weighs 30lbs. I just got done taking my interior out. Is the sound deadening just the back of the carpet? How can you take that off without tearing the carpet all up? I was expecting the deadening to be a layer between the carpet and floor.

Yep, it's "mainly" just the stuff on the back of the carpet. It's a real pain to peel off,and it may weigh 4-5 lbs tops. The whole carpet (including the backing) is only about 30 lbs.
But... there is also some foil faced stuff on the tunnel, and that pad over the gas tank. Still pretty light. And... there is that plastic stuff under the dash, behind the pedals and on up behind the dash. That is another 12-15 lbs or so. But I had to take it out in little sections with a box cutter, with the dash still in place. Never did get all the center out, found out there is a bolt on the engine side of the firewall, just behind the intake, that holds a big chunk of it in place... If you're willing to cut out squares of carpet beneath each set, they're about 1lb each, for a total of another 4 lbs.
