Default Is there such a thing as TOO MUCH traction?

I took my car to the track yesterday and it ran like crap. It's a 2000 A4/3.23's with a lid and Nittos. Best run was a 13.86 @101.3 with a 2.20 20'. All of my 60's were 2.2x or 2.3x, but the funny thing was there was absoltely no wheel spin. I dropped the nittos down to 16 PSI. The track seemed to be prepped real good. When I was doing a burnout I thought the traction control was on because the car started hopping like the ABS was kicking in or something. Turned out the car was just grabbing real hard. It was 85 degrees so the track was hot. When i was launching the car I'd stall it up to 1,500 revs and on green I'd plant the throttle and it would go with no spin. It felt kinda weak down low though. Some guy was telling me that Nittos with a stock converter can create TOO MUCH traction causing the car to bog similiar to bogging a manual transmission when launching with not enough revs. He said to put the stock tires back on and let the thing spin a TINY bit to bring the revs up and not have it bog. Is this true?

Your stall is not allowing you to bring the rpms up enough. Too much traction results in broken parts if your drivetrain parts aren't built for it. But stick with the nittos and try to get your stock coverter to stall as high as it will go. But definately need to get a higher stall. -Mark

you def need to get a larger stall. I had the same problem. My best 60ft was 2.1, got a bigger stall and dropped to 1.7, now getting some 29.5x 10.5 to hopefully drop to 1.3 or 1.4

Don't stall the stock converter so high. I used to stall it up a couple hundred RPM above the in gear idle just to preload the driveline, and i flashed it from there. Seemed to hit the tires harder. I was cutting 1.9x's on brand new nitto's.

Look at the picture in my signature. That is what "TOO MUCH" traction will really do

You guys seem to have good luck w/ Nittos. The best 60ft I've ever cut w/ them is a 1.9x, and now they're either getting sold, (since they have a decent amount of passes left in them) or I'm getting out the bleach and sending them to tire hell.
