Default Do I shift into 3rd or 4th in 1/4 mile????

Well I had my car tuned to redline at 6600 rpms, but I don't know if I should be shifting into 4th 1/4 mile wise, as it takes up time, and I don't know if it is really necessary. My car is a M6. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. what should I be trapping at (Track is at 1300 ft. above sea level)?

It really depends on your rear gear and tire size. Stock 3.42's, stock tires, 3rd is probably fine. (good for around 110 mph). Shift to 4th would put you lower in the powerband and take time, like you said, so probably not worth it.

http://www.f-body.org/gears - a calculator you can use to estimate where things happen.

Step up to a 12-bolt with 4.10's (or 4.56's ), go with a 28" tire, and you'll need that 4th gear.

I have the stock 3.42's. I don't want to invest in gears, unless I put in a Moser 12 bolt.

Thanks for the help guys

Your Z06 also has shorter 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears.

Yeah the gearing is different in the Z06. Someone told me it's more like a 3.92 gear ratio.

i have stock gears and stock tires, every time i race i usually end up having to shift into 4th for less than a second, i tried to stay in 3rd but i hit the rev limiter just before i finished the 1/4 mile. so should i practice staying in 3rd or keep it at 4th?

With a stock car you need to shift into 4th.

same here. I bumped my limiter to 6500 so I could stay in 3rd. I did try shifting to 4th, seeing as my car doesnt make any more power after 6000 rpms and I only lost a 1/10. I still hit 108 tho
