Default Mcleod SFI bellhousing

How many people use this? I know its part of the required safety equipment for 11.49 or faster around here, but do tracks really check for it? Im kinda concerned with my stock bellhousing as it already has some holes in it from bottoming out once on the street.

Do clutches blow up often enough to install one of these steel bellhousings? I have a Mcleod single disk kevlar, anybody out there experience those clutches breaking apart at the track?

I recall reading a post, over a year ago, about someone on here picking their car up from Speed Inc, IIRC, and the clutch blew apart on the way home. By no means did it have anything to do with Speed, they did some other work on the car. It was just that the clutch blew apart and the user commented about how he was going to get a SFI BH put in after seeing how much damage was there from such a low rpm breakup.
like Chef said, better to have and never need it, then to need it and not have it.

Just because the rule book is 11.49 & under doesn't mean you can't use your own safety rules. I have a 6pt rollbar, DS loop & the bellhousing running low 12s. I have followed a strategy of building my chassis way ahead of my ET & after 150 or so passes this year have always driven the car home & like Chef said it only takes one time when you need that stuff to make it worth it. I have the kevlar/organic McLeod disc & no failures yet-knock on wood.
