Default Launching Dilemna

As you can see in my signature, I've got the power, no traction. I'd like to buy some sticky tires that I can drive to the track on (2+ hrs away). As it is now, my tires spin most of the way through 1st and 2nd gear. However, I can't afford a new rear, yet. I'd like some advice in regards to launching and prolonging the life of my tranny. I'd be happy with launching at 2500 rpms without spinning. Secondly, what tires should I buy to satisfy my needs? Keep in mind that I only go to the track twice a year and I'm looking for mid to low 12's.

Thanks, Jim

Try MT Drag Radials. Should give you the traction you want, but not break your rear.

I ran ET streets, 26 10.5/15 for like 2 yrs on a 10 bolt. I launched at 4K and did not have any problems, so you should be alright. The car was making about 380 to the rear, and i was running 3.23's and a 6spd.

I picked up 3 tenths with my MT DR's. I ease into the clutch and dont' do clutch dumps. Usually launch at 4K or higher. Any lower and the car bogs majorly it has so much traction. I did do one launch off the rev limiter and managed to spin the tires. I've made about 30 passes so far with the DR's.

If you want any real life out of your tires AND traction, I'd go the Nitto rout. MT's are the best street tires for the track but don't last long at all cause you gotta get them HOT. If you can go 315 on the rear tires and just get them decently hot, you should be able to rip off some 1.8-1.9 60's

MT's don't have to be hot. Dead cold they hook like crazy on the street. At the strip I just roll through the water and do a short burnout to clean them off. They hook awesome on both tracks I went to. Only when I did the rev limiter launch did I break them loose. Best 60' with the MT's is a 1.85 and that's easing into the clutch so I don't break the 10 bolt. I'm sure when I save enough to put a 12 bolt in I can improve those times by dumping the clutch.
