Default what did I do wrong Battery relocation?

I used 2 gage from the + to the factory junction on the fender. 2 gage from the - on the battery to the rear seatbelt mount lug. 4 gage from the factory + junction to the starter and 4 gage from the factory ground on the motor mount to the factory ground on the fender.

Started fine when I finished the job now the starter drags and clicks. I've checked all connections and everything is good. Battery is an Optima and shows 12 volts. Any help before I start wasting money and time. Thanks

#2 wire is fine. you tested the battery at 12v, but i'd be willing to bet you didn't test it under load. put a tester on it and have somebody crank the car, and watch it go to like 4 v .

your battery is dead- 100 to 1 odds imho. why? batteries just like to die fwiw- no good reason sometimes and a good reason other times.

oh about what you did wrong- i ran my power right from the stock power straight back to the battery, then grounded the battery in the back (using about 10$ worth of connections i got at autozone). no other wires involved so i think you may have unknowingly complicated the relocation- it is very simple.

*** check all connections also before you do anything, that click could be a connection coming loose when load is applied to the system, then settling back down when the load is taken off. make sure all crimps are tight, terminals are clean etc...

good luck.

I have the same problem if the car sets for a few days and is not cranked. The battery is more than likely low.

Same as above, i just ran the 1 ga wire from the stock connection back to the batt and grounded it back in the spare tire area.

Well here's an update. When the car sits and is cold it starts no problem. when the car is warm like if I shut it off for gas it is hard to restart, starter drags and solinoid clicks bad.

I used #2 cable & added 200A fuse

I also made a terminal block to hook cables up @ stock bat. tray.

I had a problem with the battery draining when I relocated it. Cartek put in a voltage regulator and it fixed the problem. You might wanna give them a call if you continue having problems.

As for the strater problem it is called heat soak, the car runs gets engine gets hot then the starter sits there and soaks up the heat, problem: The starter wont work, solution, cover the starter with a heat shield or relocate the starter solenoid away from the exhaust.

Is there any reason why it started doing this after I relocated the battery or is it just coinsadence?

76LS1BIRD, I'm planning on doing my relocation soon with some 1/0 welder's cable, and a 200 amp ANL wafer fuse. Do you think that the ANL fuse will do as good a job as the fuse that you're using?

I can get them pretty cheap through my work. About ten for the holder ( 1/0 gauge ), and three for the two pack of 200 amp fuses.
