Has anyone ever used a much higher gear like a 5.29 or 5.43 and ran their car as a 5 speed? 5.43 is like a 4.11 with the .74 OD. Would this be faster with the extra gear or would you just lose ET with the extra shift?

These are the gear ratios for a T-56 with a 5.43 gear, here is the formula I came up with for each gear. It includes gear ratio, mph at shift, mph difference between gear changes and rpm drop at gear change, could this work?
27" tire mph@5500 - mph diff - rpm drop at gear change
14.44 31 - 0
9.66 46 - 15 - 3700
7.06 63 - 17 - 4000
5.43 81 - 18 - 4250
4.02 110 - 29 - 4050
27" tire mph@5500 - mph diff - rpm drop at gear change
14.44 31 - 0
9.66 46 - 15 - 3700
7.06 63 - 17 - 4000
5.43 81 - 18 - 4250
4.02 110 - 29 - 4050

thought about it many times, done it? nope. basically, 4-5 ends up being just one more place to miss a shift. not to mention that it's a much weaker gear. not that that would matter, it's just simpler and more effective to use 4 shifts rather than 5.
try it for yourself though, and let us know.
