Default 10pt. cage install pointers?

I just got my 10pt. chromoly cage from Wolfe. Does anyone know of any write ups to help me when I go to out this in? Anyone have any pointers to make this go a little smoother?

Thanks in advance.

Are you planning on installing it yourself? I hope you have welding experience. Chromemoly must be tig welded to be strong and to be legal.

I tig weld stainless steel at work all the time. I bought a tig welder and I plan on practicing on a few pieces of chromoly before I start on the cage to see if it is any different. I am mainly wondering about taking stuff out, cage placement, and anything else that someone has figured out to be little tricks of the install.

Best you can do is look at all the installed pics on Wolfe's web site, they have a ton of them.

Welding 4130 Chrome-Moly is pretty simple. I am sure if you can weld stainless, you will have no problems welding 4130. Just make sure you use the right filler metal. I use ER80S-D2 on my control arms and panhard bars. I wouldn't use a 4130 filler, because you would need to heat treat it, and being a cage you wont be able to.

I wish I had a tig welder at home so I could install my own cage. I have one at work I can use for small items, but I cant bring my car in and install a cage. I dont think they would like that.

ditto on what smoknta said on the filler material. er80s-d2 in 1/16" is what to use and yea if you can tig stainless you can do chromemoly. If you got room, use a little bigger cup. take your time notching and youll be fine.

I'm having a buddy who is a welding instructor come over with a portible welder in the back of his truck. Thanks for the tip on the filler rods. I'm not real sure if he has that on his truck. I my go to my welding supply store and pic up some of those rods.

OK, I feel better about the actual welding part. Any pointers on positioning/assembling the cage to ease with accessing the points to weld?

What about taking the interior out or putting it back in? Any tricks?

i took all my interior out when i did mine. putting the headliner back in is a trick everything else aint to bad. as far as positioning, once you start messing with it itll all come together. and just except the fact your gonna have to stand on your head to do some of the welding...lol

I never got started. I am enjoying the car too much right now. I will probably wait until this fall to start on it. I want to get some seat time in while I can.

But hey, let me know how it goes. Take lots of pictures and plenty of notes to help me when I go to put mine in. LOL

Good luck! I hope everything goes smooth for you.

And this is a Wolfe cage you are working with? I hope mine does not turn out that way. I don't have any patience when it comes to getting the car back on the road. There is no telling what mine would turn out like.
