Default XR-1s on the Collector or......

Alright guys im trying to quiet down my exhuast but not lose to much peformance.

It has to be able to pass track noise rules and I need it to be alot more quiet on the street compared to open LTs.

I was thinking i could put Xr1s on the collector since thats going to be the best flow. Or maybe ill do a 2 1/2 custom y into a flowmaster merge and an xr1 dumped.

I dont wana bang the Xr1s to get ground clearance either.

Help me decide guys.

Tony.

I was thinking of trying those cone inserts, but I haven't heard much about them as far as if they work or not.

I had XR-1's on my 382 solid roller. They sounded great. No banging required to make them clear either. Just a simple 3' section of somewhat straight pipe and the mufflers dumped before the axles.

I'm not sure what your noise ordinance at the track is, but these should give you a fair idea as to what they sound like.

I'm in the same boat.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/496730-borla-xr1-s-dynatech-split-flow-mufflers.html
I just ordered a pair of SS Magnaflow 4"x9"x18" mufflers. i just couldn't bring my self to shell out damn near $300 for two mufflers. That and this exhaust guy (V6bird) really likes the magnaflows for the least loud (lets face it no straight thru muffler is quiet) straight thru muffler.
Should be here by the end of the week.

I was thginkin about that too, but i still want THE BEST all out flow. And anything that you put in the way of exhaust flow to quiet it down WILL hurt flow.

Well I might just have my shop weld some pipe on the Xr1 then flange it up. Since if they do it at the shop they have to put cats on and im not paying that ****.

Magnaflow or dynomax get my vote. No loss from open headers on a 700hp street pump gas big block according to another source from either. The xr1 came in a close 2nd. Magnaflow was the quieter of the mufflers. Waiting on 3.5" magnaflows for my 434.

I've had a few combos.

My Magnaflows are deep, about the same as the XR1's for overall loudness.

Cone inserts don't help much.

Well the whole point of me even considering doing this was from an "Insufficient Muffler" Ticket. I thought the Xr-1s would be the quietist ones to get.

Have a look here for the gentlemen who performed the test on the various mufflers.

They will flow just as good as an XR-1 and will be quieter. Lane did testing of them compared to a straight through bullet muffler and the HP/TQ were exactly the same. If you feel like paying $250-300 for a pair of mufflers when you could have spent $75, by all means do it.

Were can you get Flo-pro? I saw they have a dealer locator but it just brings up a bunch of shops in town.

http://www.flopro.com/Twister.htm

You want part number 41277. It is 3"in/3"out and is 18" total length.

I was gonna get some of those, but at some point they WILL become a restriction. Anything you put in the way of exhaust flow to quiet it down will become a restriction at some point. I'de like to see a back to back dyno on the same car with bullets and then twisters. Both mufflers right off the headers. I bet the twisters will lose some on the top end. And thats were i'm going to be at.
