Brad,

I have a 10 lbs system with 3 nozzles and mounted my bottle in the passenger rear seat area. I was recommended the bigger system to cover both the cockpit and the engine bay. I have one nozzle in the area of my feet and the other two under hood.

Brad, is this a halon system? I'm not sure who makes the Jeg's kit, but I know Safecraft reccomends that their bottles be mounted horizontal in the car and out of direct sunlight. I'm going to try and stick my 10lbs bottle in the spare tire compartment or trunk well.

Each manufacturer is different. Bladder based systems like FireFox have no orientation requirements because the fire agent is separated from the gas discharge agent. Since the agent is in a bag, you can mount it anywhere. Safecraft recommends the horizontal orientation and a few others might say something north of horizontal. You do have to read that carefully. A 5lb bottle is nice, like Eric said 10 pounds is really the minimum for inside and outside. On the new setup I have not decided to run two 10's or two 20's yet. I'll cross that bridge shortly.

A fire extinguisher is required for all cars that are 9.99 and quicker and maybe even a bit slower. A Halon system with steel lines is an acceptable substitute for an actual extinguisher and far more successful in knocking out a fire.

David,

As you may remember I had to use mine the very first pass after I installed it. That $500 sure was cheaper than replacing the car.

I almost bought a system when I had the nitrous on the car. I think with nitrous it's pretty much a must. Brad, I've seen that system installed with the bottle mounted straight up. Maybe you could mount it where the back seat backrest used to be (assuming you've removed the backseat).

I would definately go with the 10 pound bottle and at least 3 nozzles. I know I'm getting a fire setup b4 my car even sees road time. I would DEFINATELY recomment you getting one David considing you have a lot of coin tied up in that car

With halon systems DO NOT mount a discharge in the drivers compartment, halon gas displaces o2 which puts out the fire and also would also suffocate you

Try the manufacturers directly. Firefox is one and Safecraft is another. Firefox actually sells a version that uses a Dupont agent instead of Halon which is supposed to be safer and more effective. If you don't find what you need, let me know and I'll give you a pretty serious brain dump on the topic.

Thanks Derty, I have found info about the suppressor agents, but nothing about in car systems or how do they work in a car app...

EDIT: Just found something

There are systems other than Halon and Derty has a lot of knowledge on the subject.

I'm not looking to debate the fact that Halon doesn't have it's dangers. However, to say never put a nozzle in the cockpit is matter of what evil you'd rather deal with; fire being the alternative.

I have discharged my Halon system to combat a fire and have a nozzle in the driver's compartment. As a matter of instinct I first unbelted and that kept me from being exposed for any real length of time. I did not notice any effects on my breathing.

Again, there are safer systems and I would recommend them. Just thought I'd share my experience with Halon.

I will make my research, my car is not fast, but there is no "fire safety team" where I race, and seeing that is not that expensive, I may just give my paranoia a set back

the system i got is a 2 nossle system, and eric, down by your feet, thats a good idea! i will probably do one there, and one under the hood.
i did the 5 pounder, and i have 2 extingisers, so i should be ok, better then most people have, and its my life im messin with, so even if my car runs 10's, im still glad i have it.

my system is suposed to be clear so it wont obstruct the driver, and safe to breath, but who knows, as lond as my *** isnt on fire, im ok with a little **** im the lungs, im a smoker anyway.
