I'm not exactly sure where to post this. I have a LT1 with the mods below(Might have ported/polished heads but not confirmed). I was just wondering how long could the engine last with shifts at 5800-6000 RPM while racing( maybe a few times a month and a few sprints on long open roads with no oen around). O rwould it be better to shift earlier. It is an A4 but the shift kit requires it to be shifted manually to get full power or I'll only get up to 3800 RPM. It has aobut 80,000 miles right now. P.S. I'm not sure aobut the Cam specs, but you can hear the cam and chances are it is a GM performance Parts cam.

5800-6000 is right at the red line...the car is suppose to run that high. I can shift my M6 at 6400rpms (programmer). Most cars start losing power around 5500 anyways, so i say when it hits around 5300, go ahead and shift (reaction time will put you above 5500 but below 6000, right where you need to be. LT1s are strong engines...you should be able to get 100k+ before you start having issues.

My LT1 has 161k on it.
It sees the rev limiter ALOT (currently set at 6250)
I have a RMVB TH400 in the car and I need a shift lite bad, most of the time right now I am shifting off the limiter.
If you take care of it and do your regular maintenance, you won,t have any problems taking it to 6k.
