Default Slicks vs. DRs

Well I am currently running MT ET DRs on my 15" Bogarts, but I can't get the car to launch for crap.

One pass I spin... so I adjust the RPM for launch... next pass I bog... so on and so forth all day every fricken time I go to teh track.

Would slicks be more consistant? Because these DRs don't seem to get along with my setup. Keep in mind this is on an IRS GTO making 600rwhp soon to be upwards of 850rwhp.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I just get rid of my DRs and upgrade to a set of slicks?

If I do that which tires do I need to run up front? I would like to avoid getting new front tires if I can.

So would slicks help me out any?

My front tires I have now are... MT Sportsman S/R 26 x 6 x 15
And I am beginning to think that they can't hold enough pressure to keep from looking flat on my car.

Race weight of about 3900lbs.

I used ET streets last year. 26x10.5x16. With 390RWHP and a 150shot, they dead hooked on a prepped track pulling mid 1.50 shrt times. Unprepped, they would spin very little.
I plan on using then a few more times this year then switch over to my new 28x10.5 ET drags on draglites wheels.

Yeah... if I do changeover I am probably going to get the MT ET Drags in a 28x10.5x15 for my Bogart Drag On Star 3 Wheels. Oh yeah... I would get the Stiffer sidewall option on the slicks as well which I have heard will work very nicely with my heavy *** car.

I'm using 28 x 10.5 stiff sidewall ET Drags on my Nova at a 3500 lb raceweight and they work great on almost any surface. ET Street Radials are a little trickier on launching I've found, especially during this time of year on hot track surfaces.

The slicks might transfer more shock to your IRS though.

Just my thoughts, good luck!

So far it sounds like switching to slicks is the best thing I can do.

I am looking for consistancy, and from what i have read and come to learn slicks leave more of a buffer than a drag radial when launching.

My rear end is built to the hills... The only stock piece left in my rear end is the outer axle stubs which I am waiting on as we speak.

Also running HAL QA1 shocks and air bags in the rear springs. So with those things combined I have not gotten any wheel hop since I did those mods!

If the MT fronts you are running are the radials, then you need to change to the Sportsman Pros...DOT legal and 8 ply rated. They work fine with slicks and radial rear tires. The SR's are not rated for your weight. I was going to buy a pair to match my ET DR's, but the MT tech told me they are rated around 950lbs each...Pros are rated at 1450lbs each.
