How good is a 1.5 second sixty?
Well, your average speed for the sixty feet is (obviously) 60 feet per 1.5 seconds which is equal to 27.27 miles per hour. Assuming linear acceleration, your instantaneous speed at sixty feet will be twice your average speed which is 54.55 miles per hour. OK, we’re talking about zero to 54.5 mph in 1.5 seconds. Suppose we’re also talking about a manual transmission with a first gear ratio of 2.66, 26-inch diameter wheels, and a 4.11 ratio rear gear. Then, assuming you are still in first gear and not spinning, your engine speed will be 7700 rpm. Is this beginning to seem a bit fantastic? Do quick M6 guys hit second gear before sixty feet? How fantastic is a 1.3 second sixty? Any comments or corrections would be welcome.
