Autometer shift light problem.

Autometer shift light problem. I am having a problem with my shift light. I have a 98 Z28. It worked fine up until I pulled the stock engine out and put it right back in. The stock tach works fine still to this day. The green wire from the shift light is spliced into the #35 pin white wire on the blue post of the ECM. When I connect the car battery the shift light will flash. When I take a small wire and stick it in the holes where the pill is suppost to go the circuit closes and the light will stay on constantly, so I can only assume that the power and ground for the shift light are good. I put the rpm pill back in and when I turn the ignition key forward to run the shift light won't flash, and when I bring it up to the pill RPM the light won't flash. I haven't changed anything with the wiring from before. All the wires are soldered. I did cut the ground going to the BCM and ground it to the chassis, this was to bypass the security feature on the car. I tried to reconnect the ground back to the BCM & the shift light still doesn't want to work. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am starting to think that it is my actual shift light that is fucked. It is like it doesn't want to see the rpm activation signal from the green wire, but my stock tach works just fine. All the wires are soldered and making a good connection, so I am stuck for ideas. Can anyone give me some light. Thanks
