If not I would consider one.
Glides have a much lower (numeric) 1st gear compared to a 4L60E, a TH350 or TH400, but are somewhat easier to harness big power due to that low gear. A friend swapped his TH400 for a glide and besides dropping 40 lbs, she runs almost the same but not as violent on the launch.

a glide will only slow you down if you dont make enough torque or the converter is not matched correctly to your combo.

For whatever reason my car went quicker and faster NA with the glide even though it's setup for spray! Leaving off the transbrake with the glide is MUCH different than leaving off the footbrake with the A4 The only downside to the glide over the A4 is the lack of a lockup converter... notice how my shiftlight comes on 3 full seconds before the traps... with the A4 it would only come on about 1 second before the traps... I will need to play with the rear end gearing when adding more spray... you can see that I am picking up more MPH in the 2nd half of the track NA than on the spray... the car just fell on it's face after the 1000ft mark...

That's cool to hear good things about the glide. I'm about to do a swap over to a glide myself. It has the transbrake and everything. Can't wait.

Haha, for the most part it should be a drop in (fingers crossed). I have a driveshaft that was previously on the car with a glide so it should slide right in. The converter will most likely be checked out just for assurance and then everything should go right in. The only thing we will need is a shifter.

I'm glad you like your glide. I love mine. You ran out of gear because you shifted so quick. 1st gear would have taken you further down the track if you would have stayed in it longer.

Really great et. Congrats

Glide in Andre's case was better than the footbrake 700R trans. A TH400 off the brake would probably be a bit faster though with same stall/gear/tire on motor.

On the spray all bets are off though, the glide would probably be more consistent and easier to dial in the chassis (less of a hit)

Thanks... and congrats on your car as well!

I don't understand how my 1st to 2nd shift affects the RPM at a certain trap speed... my shift light comes on (6800RPM) as I go through the traps @ 133MPH running on the motor... with the spray I picked up 12MPH in the 1/8th but only 9MPH at the top end... compared to picking up 10MPH in the 1/8th and and 13MPH at the top end with my A4 and lockup converter... With my current gearing, you can see the car falling on it's face at the top end... I think 3.73's and a little more spray might be the ticket

My guess is you went faster partially because your old trans was slipping.

Congrats man. I love my glide also....... i also ran out of gear.... 3.73's and a 28" tire...... im stuck though..... nothing lower then a 3.73 with a 12 bolt and spool.... so a 29" tire will have to do......
Congrats again.

That would make sense... how do you think the car would respond to 3.73's instead of 4.10's? I tried running the numbers through a gear calculator and I estimate it would drop my RPM's by about 600 at the top end... I am basing this assumption on my shift light coming on at 133MPH with the 4.10's...

3.73
6600 81 142
6700 82 144
6800 83 146
6900 84 149
7000 86 151
7100 87 153
7200 88 155
7300 89 157
7400 91 159
7500 92 162

4.10
6600 73 129
6700 75 131
6800 76 133
6900 77 135
7000 78 137
7100 79 139
7200 80 141
7300 81 143
7400 82 145
7500 83 147

Andre,

Find out from your converter manufacturer what the % slippage is with the converter. Then multiply that factor into your calc's after you account for tire growth at the big end. (You'll get ~1.5 inches of tire growth with that 28 inch tire and 147mph)

So if you have 90% efficient converter the calcs would be approx

29.5 inch tire accounting for tire growth
7500rpm
4.10 gear
1:1 gear in the trans
mph = 160

160mph x .90 = ~144mph factoring in converter slippage at 7500rpm

I don't think the 4.10 helps for nitrous, but n/a you might slow down with a 3.73. You and your buddy could always try it.

I don't mind loosing a couple tenths on the motor if we pick that up with the spray... we are going to try the 3.73's and I'll report the results!

The car still has the ring and tr6s in it... We are not even close to maxing out the ring yet. I want to see how fast we can go with the ring....
