ET help?
Secondly, it doesn't matter if the shifter is in D or OD, it will still shift the same in the first 3 gears anyway.
Just play around with your launch technique. Try stabbing the throttle off idle, stalling it up a little bit, rolling into the throttle, etc. What works best will depend on how good your tires are. For example, my '01 Z left the hardest when I left off-idle and flashed the converter.
Cooler, drier weather will help too.

Good luck, keep practicing and you'll get the times down!
