Is this true about Posi units? Sorry, didn't know if I should ask this here or in the drivetrain section.
Last time I went to the track, a friend of my old man's came to spectate. He mentioned alot of guys burned out slightly past the starting line, then backed up a bit, and then staged. He said backing up a bit was done to "lock the posi" to get better power transfer to both wheels. Guy used to do quite a bit of drag racing back in the 60s and 70s, but I'd never heard this before, is it true? Incidentally, I did try his method one pass and managed to knock a tenth off my 60', but figured it could easily be coincidence, since I'm horrible at launching the car.

Re: Is this true about Posi units? You burn out past the starting line to put down some rubber for traction as you leave. As for the lockers that may be a possibility but most people are probably running spools that are doing the big burnouts.
