Where do you have your transbrake button?
How would this happen? Not being a smarta$$ just curious since I was going to mount mine on the shifter, a buddy of mine custom wired a stock shifter ****, he removed the button for gear engagement and put in a wired button. He used it for his LL before moving to an aftermarket shifter, but I thought it would work well for a trans brake. Now I'm wondering if this would be a bad idea, just wondering why you say it would move the shifter?
I guess since there is no engagement on it then the inertia of the launch will pull it back with the weight of your hand on it too...
Not that it can't happen, I would definately take Madman's advice over mine anyday.

I've also found that pushing foreward on the shifter works just fine too with an open hand and my thumb on the button, that way I can't pull it back.. of course now that I've said that when I finally get the car to hook right I'll probably pull 2nd right away again LOL.
With a powerglide the button on the console is great, but I have about 1.2 seconds to put the car in 2nd gear with gloves on with the front tires off the ground - I want my hand on the shifter.
Lot has to do with personal preference and how you drive and where the shifter is. If the shifter is where you have to reach for it most likely you will pul it in 2nd gear on a hard launch. If its back far enough where you can use only your wrist with little arm movement to shift then it should be fine. Some people just cant do it on the shifter, some cant do it on the wheel, some cant do it on the console. Try and see what fits your seat/shifter combo and your style.
Keep in mind on some transmissions, you hit the transbrake button armed and the car goes into reverse. Not a good thing when blasting down track.

like I said its personal preference, no one is right or wrong, and the pulling in 2nd theory makes perfect sense. I cant possibly see how someone could let go of a brake with their thumb and pull the car in 2nd with what I have here - never even really gave it any thought really. I just dont like the console deal because I dont want to be hunting for the shifter on the 1-2, lot of stuff going on. All depends what you prefer.
I've seen people pull their tilt steering down on the launch every pass also, same thing if you hold on to the shifter for dear life too I guess
