Newb to drag racing
Newb to drag racing Hi. I'm only 17 years old and I got a 98 camaro z28 about a month and a half ago. it has some mods and me and my buddies 04 GTO and 04 GT mustang are going to lapeer dragway in michigan to see what we will run. I was looking on the website and it says if you run 12.99 or better you need a drive shaft loop? does my car already have one or do i have to put one on myself? thanks
Unless a previous owner installed one, you won't have one (they didn't come stock, but it would have been nice if they did). Hop under your car and just look at the driveshaft...if you don't see a big metal loop going around it somewhere, you don't have one. Look for something similar to this
A lot of vendors have ones that will bolt directly in to where the stock tunnel brace goes, such as the one I posted. They are pretty easy to install, and some of them don't even require that the driveshaft to be removed (the one I posted does, however)

The loop is required by NHRA tracks at 11.49 and faster on street tires, or any car running slicks regardless of times.
As mentioned above, plenty of options for driveshaft loops. I use a Metco on mine, bolt-in and bolt together so the driveshaft doesn't come out to install.

Since you are only 17, and concidered a minor, you might need one of your parents there to sign the waiver. If the mods in you signature are all you have, all you are going to need as far as additional saftey equipment goes, it an approved helmet. An approved helmet is only required for cars running 13.99 or faster - your buddy in the Mustang may not even require one - it will be close.
