Default S & W or Wolfe cage??

Any comments on S & W or Wolfe cages or roll bars?

Looking to purchase a 6-8 point C/M cage/bar.

I've installed numerous Wolfe cages for customers and they have all fit perfectly. I have not had a single issue at all with them.

I have an S&W and it was by no means a direct weld in. We pretty much had to cut or bend on every piece of the cage except the main hoop. That will really **** you off when it is listed as a direct weld in.

I got a notched WOLFE 10 point for my old 96 and the guys that put it in said it was the best made and easiest cage they had ever done. Only needed a few minor tweaks that did not require re-bending or anything.

I will say that custom cages are they way to go and if you call around its about the same cost to have a shop build one and install one as it is to get one and then have someone put it in. Now if you are going to install it then thats not the case but a custom is the way to go.

I refuse to have anything but a custom cage put in my 83.

I got a S&W. It was notched. It fits tight to the roof. One reason I chose it was the Wolfe cage had a long wait.
Also I wanted swingouts and Wolfe would only do swingouts on roll bars and not on cages.

I have heard lots of good things about Wolfe cages though.

The Wolfe fit very well just wish they would have left the main hoop a little taller and let me trim it to fit, I dont care about the headliner and I'm 6'4" so I had to mount the seat to the floor for my helmet to be under the main hoop but its not a big deal really.

Very nicely notched and was able to put all the plastic back in the interior, its a quality piece.

We've been using the S&W cages. Not a direct fit without some minor mods, but we get them within one week of when we order them. Bob

One thing that I am suprised hasn't been mentioned is the cost.

A Wolfe 10 point cage costs over $1000 with chromoly tubing and jig notching, including shipping.

An S&W cage costs $600 for the same options, including shipping.

Does an S&W take a little more work? Yes, probably in most cases. But I'd rather use a little more elbow grease than spend $400 more for basicly the same thing.

I have a combo S&W/Wolf 6 point. The main hoop and rear bars are S&W and the door bars are Wolf. I originaly ordered the S&W kit thinking I would have access to a bender to make the door bars work (not!). Then I ordered the Wolf door bars. It still came out cheaper than ordering a complete Wolf kit. I don't mine doing the work to save some $$. If you want a cage that you can just stick in and weld, get the Wolf.

I wasn't really "thrilled" with the way my Wolfe cage turned out. The welds/craftsmanship was great, the fit just wasn't awesome like you would think, and I guarantee mine was different and more "unique" than any of your Wolfe cages and I seriously was disappointed with what they put together for me.

I have a modified S&W. Wish I had bought a Wolfe. S&W door bars are straight, where as the Wolfe are bend to fit nicely around the stock door panels. The halo of the S&W is too low, and too short. The Wolfe uses a long side bar off of the main hoop through the a pillar. Much better design. I had to change/replace 50% of my S&W kit to make it work.
