Default Plastic inner fenders?

Any reason not to pull these out for weight savings? I'm going over the whole front end and removing the extra stuff I don't need. The car is basicly a street/strip ride. I'm usually on skinnies and Hoosier QTPs. The longest drive for me is going to the Atco (60 miles or so). I don't drive in the rain either.

I've already pulled the cruise and traction control systems out, pulled the front bumper support and the foam, yanked the front sway bar and all the brackets and had the SJM abs delete kit installed. I also pulled the fog lights and their brackets and got rid of the SLP grill insert. I'd really like to trim the air dam where it extends past the frame horns, get rid of the plastic pieces that attach to the bottom of the bumper and chuck the inner fenders. I'm not ready to start cutting any metal yet, just unbolting stuff.

I tried it, but it looks way to ugly for the 1/4 pound you lose.

If you paint the parts that are body color then it should not be that noticable. here is mine. I don't have any pics of it finished but it doesn't look too bad imo.

about the abs delete kit.....do you have the flare tool? if so could i borrow it or rent it? sorry off topic.

when i ran my best back in april i removed the air dam....since i too have the front bumper support and foglites out. and was getting air from the foglite holes. did you ditch the A/C yet? that was another 30lbs as well.

the only down fall i had to having the air dam off was that now the plastic pieces undernieth the front were just dangling. so i used duct tape to keep it in place.

also dont know if this helps the camaro guys like yourself, but i also removed the side mirrors when heading to the track, all about aero. and i had the front of the nose taped up as well

I wouldn't (and haven't) pull those plastic inner fenders. They don't save you much weight and they help tie everything together real nice up front.
I like the idea of painting the inner area black though, it's a cool idea but for me the inners are staying.
With the iron 408 you're gonna have to set the front setting to "0" and you'll be getting plenty of travel with those fronts in the air and everyone will see that you took them off, hehe.

On the lower air dam. I unbolted the whole thing and cut the metal bracket that it mounts to off. Mine was already bent strait back so I konw it couldn't have been doing any good for cooling. With the front bumper support gone the air going thru the grille and everywhere else is plenty for it.

I didn't do the install. If I had the tool I'd gladly lend it to you.

I'm not going to pull the a/c just yet. My car is a hard top, so it's a little lighter than a t top car anyway. I think I'm going to pull the air dam as well. I've got the grill off already so air flow should not be an issue.

The plastic flaps that attach to the bottom of the bumper cover are already pretty shabby looking. I think that if I paint the wheel wells black and pull the plastic flaps off, it should look OK. If I hate it, I'll just put the stuff back on. I don't think I'll notice it though. I'm definately doing some exploritory surgery on this thing tonight.

I personally would NOT pull them, but if you do, ensure nothing is sharp up where the tires will hit. Mine rub all the time when I come down from big wheelies...not bad, but you see the melted plastic witness marks.

Take care. Dave

Same here, mine has the same melted plastic up top from the wheelies.
