gear, tire combo
gear, tire combo here's the deal, I have to go through and refresh my 10 bolt rear end. Appears the gears are wearing wrong, rear end is noisey. Inspected the rear and found the previous owner had a true track installed, guess I'll keep that. So seeing as how I need to replace the rear gears I was thinking 4.10s with 28" tall tire on my 17" wheels. Car is bolt on, lvl2 performabuilt trans, fuddle 3600 stall, suspension mods. Right now I can't launch very well from a dig, I have the 275/40/17 BFG DRs. Maybe I cant drive a stalled auto and need to learn technique. Maybe a tire with more sidewall will work, dunno. I just want to be relatively sure I wont slow the car down by doing this 28" tire thing. I posted in gears & axles but maybe this is a better forum for this question, anyways thanks for any help.

I would just keep the 17's for driving and get a set of 15" drag rims and run a 275 60 15 Dr tire or something around that.
I am not a fan of 10bolt f-body rear ends, needless to say I do not believe in building those up or replacing anything, best option is replacing the rear end itself period.
It will only be a matter of time before you break it and the better your car starts working and hooking the sooner it'll come.
Also 4.10 are a weaker gear than a 3.73 or 3.42 so remember that also.
