Suspension help needed, settings to get into the 10's

Here is my Combo

94 Z
383 Solid roller LT1
4L60E, 4300 converter
4.11 gear
325/50 drag radial
465 rwhp, 436 tq
Spohn tq arm
BMR K member
First generation HAL QA1's up front
Koni Double adjustables in the rear
Stock rear swaybar, no front swaybar
Airbag in RR spring
Raceweight 3780 lbs

The car has only been to the track once, best was ....
60 ft 1.58
1/8 7.15@95
1/4 11.25@120

I only got 5 passes in

Settings on that pass were
Rear tires 12 psi
Front shocks loose as possible
rear shocks as installed(neutral)
airbag empty
Leaving at 2000 rpms flashing converter.

The track was crappy when I ran that ET.

I think I should have a tenth or so to get out of 60ft, where should I start on rear shock settings? I have KONI double adjustables on the rear.

Thanks

David

Bryan, part number 8242-1006SP1, I know you are gonna nail me on those shocks, but I got em and gonna have to work with them. Afco's are kinda out at the moment.

Don't you think this car should 60 ft in the high 1.40's?

Put that car on a diet ;) You've got 10's in that car, just give it time, and some messin' with the suspension.

There is a few things I can do, not much though.

Put in some Kirkeys, remove the door bars, passenger airbag, thats about it.

It is a streetcar so the Kirkeys I dont want, I could stand to lose a 100 lbs LOL.

That looks like a road race shock Dave. How many sweeps in the top and clicks in the bottom do they have.

I'd guess around 1.47-1.48 60ft with a 10.90's et. You should take a video of the car at the track so we can all see how it is leaving.

BTW why run an airbag empty?

Well it was one of those deals where I was trying different things. The car at first was wheel hopping....I was just trying different things that night.

I will leave it with 15-18 lbs and drop the tires to 12 and see what happens.

I weighed the car on 4 corner scales, this is with a full tank of fuel and 15 psi in the right rear airbag.

No driver

LF RF
992 881

LR RR
743 854

With driver

LF RF
1099 913

LR RR
880 900

Thoughts?

Bryan, BTW, I have BFG 325/50 drag radials, can I rotate them side to side? There is no rotation arrow on the tire.

20# heavy on RR w/driver is a good starting point. stiffen the shocks for wheel hop. Pinion angle?

Everything in the rear is heim ended, I got it at -2.0 at the moment. Stiffen compression or rebound or both? I was gonna start with tightening compression

So far he he, the gas package is coming soon!

This car has tested my sanity, what little is left.

Hey how about that 3x Madman shirt?

I am going to Irvington tonight to play with the suspension, come on out.

It's at Tommy's.

Probably coming out tomorrow to test- putting the car back together today.

chrismorales75 Oct 13, 2007 11:44 AM

Wonder why your car is so much lighter on the right front???

I scaled another car I had and it was only 5-10 different from one side to the other, you have a big ass hidden turbo on the side:D

Here ya go Chris, it doesn't APPEAR to spin the tires, almost like the converter is too loose.

I try different things, I have not adjusted pinion angle, it is at -1* because all of my rear is heim ended, nothing moves really.

I tightened the rear shocks to full firm on compression, didnt really effect it much.

I can get it down to consistent 1.58's, everything I try from there either makes it worse or has no effect at all.

4300 stall??? It isn't flashing very hard. What are you doing when you stage it??

Looks like you aren't pre-loading the chassis much, ever think about trying a 2 step hooked up to the brake so you can have it floored and then as soon as you let off you have full throttle?

Do you have adjustable lower control arm brackets?

What are the front and rear shocks set at?

Leaving just off idle, about 1100 rpm. I thought about a two step. Lower control arm brackets are in the bottom hole. Front Hals are full loose. Rear Koni's are set rull hard on compression 1/2 way on rebound.
