Glide/converter question.
What powerglide are you guys running making 1000-1500 flywheel horsepower. At what point is the upgraded case honestly needed? I'm in the market for a glide for me and one for my business partner, both cars being over 1000 horse so any input is appreciated. I've talked to JW and Rossler so far and they both fall about 3700 with upgraded case and sfi bell housing. 1.80 straight cut gear, 8 clutch pack high, etc.
Also, what brand converter are you guys having good luck with at this power level. Right now I'm looking at Pro Torque, Coan, ATI, and Neal Chance. I figured on spending 1000 or so on a converter.

Rossler and Hutch both make outstanding transmissions. We have several different Neal Chance converters and each one of them is a fantastic piece of work and the results speak for themselves.
I've run 1000+ through stock case glides with an ultrabell, and have had no problems. Just make sure to get a good gear set, and 10 clutch drum. The problem with aftermarket cases is that they are so thick, they hold a bunch of heat and can pose potential problems for door cars with little ventilation. Ati and Neal Chance makes great converters. For weld ups, I use ATI, and for bolt togethers, I use Neal. Also, check out Neal Racing Transmissions, they are out of Georgia, and build top notch transmissions. http://www.nealtrans.com/
not having to bother with the blow shield makes the aftermarket case worthwhile, the shields can be a pita. The heat issue should be able to be taken care of with a good enough/big enough tranny cooler as well I would think.

Really leaning towards the sfi case due to that, and the car will have twin supercoolers on them with fans so it should keep the heat down.
Thanks for the info fellas, keep it coming.

dedenbear case is awesome, both shields built in. Been using Coan converters. 8 or 10 clutch pack will be more than enough for 1000 HP. I run an older style Coan top dog, 1.80 straight with 8 clutch pack. Works great. 1500+ HP, no issues. Converter is usually around $1200-1300, and as said, bolt together more like $2700.

I know of plenty of guys in the 1,000 HP range with stock cases (not any on the 1500 HP level, not to say it won't work).
I will say this, if you buy from Coan... DO NOT buy from a guy named Craig. I'm not bashing the company, just the individual. They're a successful company so obviously they have guys that know their ****, just not him. Know plenty of other people with bigger HP cars that keep destroying converters that he makes that can't handle the power. I know from experience on several occassions, unfortunately.
