Light weight brake options
I was wondering if anyone decided to build their own rotors from the wilwood catalog. The stock front rotors on my car are 10.9". Wilwood makes a bunch of ultralight rotors from 10.75" to 11.5" diameter, that I think should fit. The lightest ones are 5.4lbs (without the hat or bolts). The hats are machined aluminum and weigh 1-1.5lbs, and the bolts are pretty negligible, figure a few ounces if that. I'm thinking you could build your own for easily under 180 per side ( I checked pricing) and shed about 12lbs off of each wheel, no problem. So, 360 bucks for 24lbs of UNSPRUNG weight, is a big deal. The only thing is the hat offsets are so damn confusing, I'm not exactly sure which way to go. Do I add the offset to the width of the rotor? What exactly is the offset or total width of a stock rotor? Anyone have any ideas?

You need to know the offset and the thickness. Where you save weoght is the thicness of the rotor, the material its made out of and the Caliper. Best hing to do if you are set on this is to just call Willwood. They can get a rotor for you that will fit. They have the correct measurements

Well, my stock rotors weigh 19lbs, and some carquest ones weigh 20.5. I was thinking there would be some interest since the strange front brake kit for our cars is over 900 bucks, and a big portion of the weight savings is from the rotor. A bone-stock LT1 front caliper and bracket is 12lbs. I am sure that the wilwood calipers would be quite pricey, if they even make a small drag caliper for our cars.

I'm very interested in hearing if you can get something worked out to re-use the stock LT1 caliper with a lighter rotor. Maybe even send wilwood a factory rotor and have them assemble a lightweight rotor of the same dimensions?
