Question Drag Slick question?

I am going to go to the Drag strip soon for the first time on my new set up, Which for the most part is stage 2 ls1 heads, Trex cam 4400 stall, 9 in w/4.11's and all the bolt ons. In the past (with a much more mild set up) I would use the MT ET Drags 28 10.5 with no tubes. My question is if you are not using tubes in your slicks, when should you get your slicks rim screwed?

I have put rim screws in before the tire was mounted and have done tire screws after the tire was mounted, both times I wasn't running tubes.

Ever consider a drag radial? The work really well with autos.

Keep in mind you don't have to necessarily put screws in the rims b/c of a powerful car. I've seen plenty of single digit rides without them. Run the car with the slicks unscrewed first and see if the tire moves by marking the sidewall by the valve on each side, make a pass and then check them. A little movement is normal after the first few runs to get the tires seated when they are new, but I'm cutting 1.56 or better 60 foots and my tires aren't screwed nor did they move after the first few runs.

If you go to screws, I'd consider running a tube to keep the pressure up as some tires will leak air when screwed.

You don't need no stinking slicks!

I've cut 1.52 60' times with BFG drag radials on mine. But, if you do run the slicks, try them without screws....as stated above.

12-18 psi. worked the best. Start at 20 and work your way down.

Glad to see you finally got that thing tuned well enough to take to the track.

Maybe you can get Ed to go to the track with you. I would like to know how both of you guys are running now-a-days.

I DD drag radials and when I race guys from a low roll (20 mph or slower) the tires spin so from a dig at the track would probrably be a lot worse that is why I'll be using slicks.

I don't run tubes or screws with either car, both 60FT in the 1.3's all out. Just mark it with polish or some tape for a few hits.
