I don't wanna keep anyone from getting paid, but no way in hell I'd fork over a grand for a cage that is fit and tacked together.

Look around and ask around that's all you can do, you pay for what you get, but you're not getting a cage built, fit, prepped, you're paying for straight welding so don't be a sucker.

Yeah it is your quote Tyson, but I figured the price has changed since it has been almost 10 months since I asked for it, that's why I tried to blur out the shop name in the image...

I wish I was ready for it, I have all the mods I need in my basement to get me deep enough to need the cage, but I am trying to get this damn bolt-on record first, and it has been a little tougher then I thought. I would hate to have to step up the gear just for the record then need another gear change when I do my next round of mods...

I should definitly need it this year because I don't think I will be happy staying at 12.0 for too long, everyone else in the series I race in is getting faster and I would hate just sitting still...

The thing with the cage is it can't be completely tacked in place when it gets taken to the shop. The person doing the welding is going to want to put it together himself to cut down on the welding time. if it's all tacked then he may have to use mirrors and crazy angles with the TIG.

The halo will be a pain to weld completely around if it's all tacked up and the main hoop is already welded to the plates and rocker bars.

You need to be able to have some movement inside the car to get it completely done.

Even at 100 an hour to weld (not sure of the going rate) it'll be a 200-300 labor charge

Then you can send me the extra for beer money and we can celebrate the extra green backs in your pocket
idk how much tig experience you have, but its going to take more than 2-3 hours to tig that cage together

You drop it down by lowering the subframes, for the way we put ours in that gave us about 3-4 inches to drop it down, we had the windshield out also, that's how we did the one we did the one my friends car, it took around 3 hours to weld, it was tigged.

It was a 10 point. Considering there is 20 welds regardless of what anyone says I wouldn't pay 1,000 plus just for the welding, if no one else has someone to help them out getting a better deal I don't know what to say, just that I wouldn't and dont have to pay that much personally.

A standard 10 point will have about 20 weld points, divide that by 180 minutes, thats 9 minutes for each weld.

It's not unreasonable nor impossible, I've personally seen it done and helped do it.

much more than 20 welds.

4x rocker bars
4x door bars
2x dash bar
2x main hoop
2x main hood cross bar
2x halo
4x front cage bars
4x rear bars
4x Tunnel bars
8x Plates
--------------
36 welds off the top of my head for a regulation cage in an f-body

that doesn't include any extra bars

If you have weld in sub frame connectors you may not be able to holesaw the floor to drop the cage through even if you do howl saw and the rocker bars are in it won't lower it much.

Any tube not welded 100% around would require a gusset.

it will take a more than 9 min a weld specially when you get up around the head liner.

Most people I know mig weld the floor plates. and a lot of people don't run 2 door bars on the floor, usually just the drivers side.

Plus if you're running through the floor subframes you'll only use 2 plates in the rear behind the seat. Everything else gets welded to the subframes and outriggers.

Some bars might take more than 9 minutes to weld, but a lot of welds are much easier to get to and won't take more than a couple minutes to weld.

Rulebook says that all unibody cars require all points connection to the body to have a 6x6 plate.

If you subtract those two bars one for the door and one rocker thats still 32 Welds that have to be done.

It's not attached to the body they are welded to the subframes and outriggers.
